UAE: Cyclone Won’t Affect the Region

Khaleej Times

ABU DHABI/AL AIN, Nov 1: The tropical cyclone formed in the Arabian Sea, named 05a, has weakened and will not affect the UAE, Met officials said yesterday.

According to the Meteorological Department in Abu Dhabi, the cyclone is currently moving towards Yemen and African region and will not have any impact on the UAE.

However, the officials said, the cyclone is likely to bring rain and thunder showers tomorrow in some parts of Fujairah and Oman, while clouds are forecast in Northern region of the UAE and rains in eastern region of the country the same day.

Dr Aisha Al Motawaa, environment and meteorology expert and Manager of Safety and Crises Management at Dubai International Airport, has assured that the UAE would not be harmed by the tropical cyclone.

“Since cyclone Gonu hit Oman and Fujairah emirate, I have noticed that people have undue fears of cyclones, which are unjustified,” she said.

However, thunderstorms are expected this time of the year — between autumn and winter, she said.

Dr Aisha said fluctuations in the atmospheric pressure affect the country and cause weather changes.

The UAE is normally exposed to two types of atmospheric pressure, Azores Bigger pressure and the Mediterranean Sea smaller one. “They affect all GCC countries not only the UAE,” she said.
