Daijiworld Media Network-Mangalore (KM)

Mangalore, Nov 2: One more preparatory meet will be convened on Sunday November 4 at the Revenue Building, located at Deputy Commissioner’s office here in order to reach better conclusions with regard to issues like indefinite hunger strike of P V Mohan, informed lawyer Dinesh Hegde Ullepady to media persons at the press conference held at the Revenue Building on Thursday November 1.

The issues that will be discussed on Sunday are to gather support for the indefinite hunger strike, spreading awareness among people including politicians on the proposed protests, with an objective of making the success of protest, he added.

Detailing as why meeting will be once again convened on Sunday, he said ‘they have learnt over the years that nothing can be achieved without the support of general public. Thus they have decided to take people into confidence in the wake of lukewarm response by the people of the district."

People of Coastal Karnataka lack determination.  It is the time to have determination cutting across political and religious lines, association limits, differences of opinions in order to press the railway authority to remain impartial with Karnataka, he informed.

Various strategies will be discussed like how to take the fight forward to press authority to withdraw the extension of Matsyagandha express to Tiruvanathapuram, resume Mangalore-Bangalore train services at the earliest and take earnest efforts not to cause injustice to Karnataka and the Kannadigas, he said.

Dakshina Kannada (DK) and other coastal districts of the state have umpteen numbers of associations, organizations and NGOs working under various names for the same cause.  Owing to lack of coordination and communication, the rate of success was found to be very low. The committee will be chalking out plans to bring all of them under one umbrella which serves as the prime issue in the meet, he added.

The committee is also thinking of getting support from DK residents residing in other parts of the country.  The people should plunge into the movement for the cause of the society, irrespective of caste and creed. Bringing people under common agenda must be carried out immediately. Representatives must give their standings publicly, opined Uday Kumar Irvattur.

The meeting convened on Sunday will mainly discuss strategy for the indefinite hunger strike scheduled on Monday November 12, inviting associations to fight for the cause at one platform and spreading awareness among public regarding the importance of the fight.

P B D'Sa, Kanthappa Alangur, Tejaswi Raj and others were present during the preparatory meet.

Mr. S Rajendran has written some facts about Indian Railways. Bangalore-Mangalore Railway line is ready. In November of this year it was to start. But not yet. People are waiting. But the owners of the buses are worried. It happened when Gulf Airlines were trying to land in Mangalore directly. Not only Mumbai-Mangalore bus owners and domestic airlines but also Gulf Airlines were worried. Konkan Railways was proposed by Ullal Srinivas Mallya more than 40 years ago but another Mangalorean administrator Mr. George Fernandes could see that it was completed in spite of financial restraints. Hope Mangalore-Bangalore railway line opens shortly.

Now I got to know little why Mangalore & Bangalore railroad is delaying. It is our own Karnataka Bus owners are objecting it as they are losing their business. And our politcians are backing them because if there is railway then they will not get their 'Haptha' from these Bus owners. And we blame the centre. It is time we, the puiblic unite to achieve the goal of having railway service at the earliest. As one reader said, unless we unite nothing can be achieved.

Congress MLA R Roshan Baig on Thursday, 01 Nov., 2007, requested Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to reintroduce train service between Bangalore and Mangalore at the earliest. Lalu was in Bangalore City for a short while at the Banglaore City Railway station, before boarding a train to Salem. Baig met Lalu at the airport and escorted him to the railway station. Baig, speaking to reporters, said he told the Railway minister the bus lobby was not allowing reintroduction of the train service. “The train service can be commenced immediately." He also told him a big drama was on to prove the train route was not safe. The delay was tarnishing the image of the minister.

Mr Lalu said he would look into it. During the forthcoming Parliament session, I would be meeting MPs from Karnataka in Delhi and request them to pressurise the Railways to introduce the train service,” he added. The above news-clip was from the Deccan Heralddt 02-11-2007. From this (Sri Laluji's reply) it is quite apparent that the people's representatives from Mangalore do not bother about fighting for Karnataka's cause in contrast to Tamil Nadu MPs & MLA's. First, wake up these MPs & MLAs other politicians and take them to task for not bothering about such important issues. Remember, Mangalore has the heritage of originating Railway Station (RS) for the longest route in the undivided India. The train travelled to Peshawar (now in Pakistan) with the name 'Grand Trunk' Express. The journey time was 104 hours. (Later the train was made to run between Mettupalayam and Lahore. Now it is between Chennai and New Delhi.) The Mangalore RS is 100 years this month.

Only solution is that, to fight for the seperate division, i.e. "MANGALORE DIVISION" under "SWR (SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY) ZONE headquartered at "HUBLI" KARNATAKA. This move will only help our state to bring Matsyagandha Express and Mangalore-Bangalore Train for our Kannadigas. Therefore such awareness should be created in our Kannadigas. Most of the people do not know our Mangalore Railways Station is administered by far PALGHAT DIVISION, KERALA and therefore it is sidelined for any development and implementing new trains etc. We don't want our Managalore Railway Station to be under "Palghat Division" SR Zone.
