Abu Dhabi, Nov 3: Befitting to its acclaimed name as the true cultural ambassadors of Karnataka State, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha celebrated 51st edition of Karnataka Rajyotsava festival by presenting a carnival of Tradition, Humour & Poetry to the full cheer and praise of the discerning Kannadiga audience.
The function held on Friday 2nd Nov at Sudanese cultural club witnessed a full house and was inaugurated by the popular Kannada Cine artist Ramesh and Grand Patron Dr.B.R.Shetty by lighting the traditional lamp in presence of Committee members and cheering audience.
Besides scintillating Bharatha Natya, Folk dances presented with traditional gusto, much of the time bravely & wisely was assigned to Kannada literary arena which added much needed authentic Karnataka cultural flavour to the festivity. By doing so an impetus is given to develop & harness the literary skills of Kannadigas in the Emirates.
Cultural presentations included dances; ‘jaya bharatha janani , ‘Nagana Nruthya’ and much applauded bharatha naatya ‘Thillaana’ by Namitha Ananath and group. Earlier Sharanappa & group offered welcome song.
Another event which in itself is novel and practiced by Sangha is to recognise the talented students who academically excel each year. It was indeed a proud & emotional moment for each parent while they received the appreciation award from Dr.B.R.Shetty.
For, ever exuberant President Sarvotham Shetty this Rajyotsava function was a sort of emotional setback as he & his team bid farewell to its senior members….D.R.Agnihotri, Srinivas Achar and Shodan Prasad. All these were lauded, applauded and honoured in traditional style.
Traditionally Rajyotsava also is also an occasion to felicitate the achievers. This year one of the senior member Manohar Tonse who is a poet, critic and much acclaimed writer was honoured by Grand Patron Dr.B.R.Shetty on behalf of the Sangha.
Grand Patron Dr.B.R.Shetty in his presidential address called for good Governance and castigated the political drama which our State is now witnessing and called on Gulf Kannadigas to take part in cleansing of dirty politics in their respective towns.
The all round ability of President Sarvotham Shetty was specially tested today as he took on new roles of a humorist & poet and won the hearts of the audience in his new garb.
The day however belonged to our own amateur humorists and poets who stole the show with their original, teasing, romantic, humorous ‘chutuku’ and entertained the audience who filled the auditorium after sumptuous dozing lunch.
Ranjani Suresh, Prakash Rao Payyaru, Mangala Shetty, Irshad Moodabidri, Laxmesha Bhat, Sashidhar Nagarajappa, Mani Manmohan Rai and Sarvotham Shetty proved beyond ones imagination that the expat Kannadigas have abundance of talent and it is not always necessary to import performers from outside. This ‘hanigavana’ episode was well presented in poetic style by versatile Manohar Tonse.
Air India sponsored two air tickets were Raffled along with other grand prizes.
Lastly, Ananth Rao deserves profuse accolades & appreciation for his creative and fluent narration in chaste Kannada which weaved the events to soothing and likable episodes much to the pleasure of the large spectators
