Bangalore, November 5: Even the clouds opened up to salute the epitome of perfection – “Women”, more so the “Shrimathis”. It was the grand finale of the very popular programme on Zee Kannada “Smt.Karnataka”. The theme in itself is so interesting for everybody to take cognizance. It is a unique initiative to actually highlight and pay tribute to the almost thankless job of taking care of their spouse, children and extended families. It was the search for the BEST “SHRIMATHI” of Karnataka.
Twenty contestants were chosen from over 600 applicants from 27 districts to take part in this exciting, innovative and ‘enriching’ contest. Contestants were evaluated based on several criterion like endurance, fiscal prudence, humour, culinary skills, co-ordination, resource management, time management, costumes, beauty make over, persuasive skills, aesthetic quotient and other factors. The eliminations also happened accordingly.
We had eight finalists taking part in the grand event. Two each from Mysore, Hubli, Bangalore and Mangalore. Smt.Chetana, Smt.Tanu, Smt.Shanta, Smt.Vijaylakshmi, Smt.Chandana,Smt.Savitha, Smt.Poornima and Smt.Rekha respectively.
The finalists went through some grueling rounds of Q&A, ramp walking and last but not the least, the TOP 5 were put through a compatibility test along with their husbands. Overall a fine evening with the right mix of entertainment and contest. There were some fine dance performances by Bhramari, Gokul’s team and Harsha’s team. The very popular Manjula Gururaj, Sunil Raoh and Mysore Gangotri Ramaswamy entertained the audiences with their melodious renditions of few of the well known numbers.
The highlight was also the eminent panel of judges, which included Dr.Vijayamma, Smt.Sudha Prakash, Mr.Pradeep Belawadi, Mr.Om Sai Prakash and Smt.Shruthi.
It was indeed a vibrant, enthusiastic and entertaining contest.
The end was worth the wait when Smt.Shantha Venkatesh (56) of Hubli was crowned Eyetex Dazzler “SHRIMATHI KARNATAKA” and walked away with Rs.2 L worth gold.
First runner-up was Smt.Savitha Madhu, won gold worth Rs.1 L and second runner-up Smt. Chandana Vadiraj, won gold worth Rs.50,000/-. There were also four other special categories based on the viewers choice, they were Smt.Talented-Smt.Amrita R Mehendale, Smt.Congeniality-Smt.Savitha Madhu, Smt.Energetic-Smt.Suchitra Jaisimha and Smt.Charming–Smt. Nandini Murthy.
