Sullia, Jun 13: 3 persons from Kalmakar from the taluk died in a fatal accident which took place at Madgaon in Goa on Saturday June 11, late night.
A group of friends from Kalmakar had gone to Goa for excursion on Friday and on their way back home, the tragedy took place. The jeep hit a mini lorry and killed three persons instantly.
Punith Guddemane (21), Charan Mantakaje (24) and Somashekhar Agaladka (21) are the persons deceased. Pradeep who was driving the jeep in seriously injured while other four have sustained minor injuries.

Pradeep previously worked in Goa and later had shifted to his village and ran jeep hiring business as his livelihood. As he knew Goa very well, the friends decided to go with him in his jeep. During the time of the accident all the passengers were sleeping and even Pradeep was feeling sleepy, it is said.
Economically backward families
All the passengers including the deceased came from economically backward families.
Punith’s father had recently died and he could not continue his studies due to poverty. He had recently joined a company in Mangaluru for his job. Mother is a coolie worker.
Charan worked as a temporary driver in his village. He would go as driver whenever he was called on daily wages basis.
Somashekar‘s sister’s marriage was fixed and preparations were being made. His parents are coolie workers.
