Mangalore, Nov 7: India-Pakistan relationship always seems to be sensitive — be it on the cricket field or off it. A doctor from Mangalore visiting Pakistan, however, found that all the ‘tension’ is more at the political level rather than at grassroots, even when that country came under emergency.
H Kishore Chandra Prasad, Head, Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Kasturba Medical College and affiliated hospitals, Mangalore, was in Peshawar when Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf announced emergency there on Saturday. Dr. Prasad was the only Indian invited by the Pakistan Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery for its 20th national conference from November 1 to 3 at Khyber Medical College in Peshawar. Has the doctor’s visit to the conference made any impact? If everything goes well, a team of Pakistan doctors may visit KMC in Mangalore to learn more about the head and neck surgery soon.
The doctor said that common people of Pakistan love and respect Indians very much. “They do not have any hatred towards Indians. The hospitality they extended to me was memorable. I enjoyed every minute of my stay there. The organisers and their friends showered unforgettable affection on me. It was not artificial.,” Dr Prasad said. He said that Dr Zakirullah, convener of the conference, used to call up Dr Prasad’s son and Dr Prasad’s wife at Mangalore every day to convey that he was safe in Pakistan.
