Mangalore: Youth Celebrate Diwali with Children of ‘Sanidhya’

Mangalore, Nov 9: The entire city was celebrating Diwali in its own way. But some youth belonging to Manjunath Friends Club celebrated their Diwali in a meaningful way.

They shared their joy with mentally-challenged children studying at ‘Sanidhya,’ school located at Bikarnakatta, on Thursday November 8 evening.

MLA Yogish Bhat was the chief guest on the occasion. In his speech he said, “If we change our social angle, we can do a lot within the system,” he opined.

Institutions like ‘Sanidhya’ are doing a good job by looking after the mentally-challenged children. That is why the society should support them, he added.

M G Hegade, chairman of MIFT, said that mental challenge is neither curse nor sin. This is only a small mistake occurred while creation. Hence, the society should change its attitude towards these children, he said.

Entrepreneur Arun Coelho, former Mayor Purandardas Kulur and Manjunath Friends Circle president Gopalkrishna were present on the dais.

Mahabal Marla, president of the school, presided over the function. Vasanth Shetty compered the programme.

Later the chief guests and members of the Manjunath Friends Club bursted the firecrackers with mentally-challenged children, danced with them and also shared their dinner with them.
