Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 25: A person has filed complaint with Brahmavar police station in the taluk about having been defrauded by someone posing as bank employee who collected PIN of his ATM cards, and then drew money from the accounts without his authorization.

The complainant, Harish Hebbar (32) from Chantaru village near Brahmavar said he has account with Canara Bank Varamballi branch. "On June 21, a person who identified himself as a bank employee working in bank's head office, collected PIN of my ATM card. When I went to the ATM the next day to withdraw money, I found that the balance in my account had suddenly come down to Rs 13,325 from the earlier Rs 1,14,017," he stated.

Hebbar said he called the phone number from where he had received the earlier call to enquire. The person on the other side wanted to know details of his other accounts if any. Hebbar gave the details about his account with Syndicate Bank. Within minutes, he checked his account out of suspicion and found to his dismay that his account, which earlier had a balance of Rs 6,659.83, was left with only Rs 66.83.

The police have registered the case and begun investigation.

Police will never investigate such frauds. I am sure that the caller spoke in Hindi and not English or Kannada.
Hundreds of such hindiwala ATM frauds have taken place in our own Coastal district and till now the police have not traced even a single fraudsters. Police just file FIR and then forget it.
