    Hello Everybody ,
From the comments on most topics of DW,its politically motivated ,but one thing is for sure .. They all love Mangalore .
I hope i have enough space to express here .
All well wishers, first please lets familiarize ourselves with what is a Smart city ?
In brief:Infrastructure, technology, Integration of both and Operations of the above.
    Where will we fault ?
Lets get to know the funding amount, mark key parameters required for optimum manageability for both( infra & tech),create a citizen body other than just MCC and Central government to ask for transparency, not running after IAS who will act as GOD.

Infrastructure :After ADB 2005( JR Lobo administrator, good job actually)what is required ?
Water?Of Course! Not just water but a 24x7 mechanism called pressurized water supply Wherein water can be had from the tap . No more RO, Aquaguards etc . Pressure kills bacteria

Power? How?Western Ghats generation of hydel ?Env? No capacity for Wind this side of the coast. Then How?Solar is a better alternative. CAPEX massive.

Sewerage : Upgrade existing STP or plan ahead .Yes .

Traffic : RTO online , vehicle registration online, traffic flow decided on real time analysis.

Pavements & Roads : A 100% new blue print. Not just MG road,Car street. The whole city.On lines of TENDER for SURE.

Technology : No foreign Junkets , Make IBM,HP,Cisco come down and present and squeeze for discounts.
Management : Every citizen connected to the system by one single ID . best usability of addhar no. Country has already spent a lakh crores .

Reality : Just 24x7 DPR under Vinay Kumar when he was urban head was 445 crores for managalore forget cost of completion
Can Sewerage, roads ,Power ,transport ,tech, integration with disparate systems, like tax and health fitin the overall budget allocation for each city.
If central is provisioning 500 and state 500 and rest through PPP, or Finance , lets first check how much is paid of ADB . Out of space . Pls comment

While thinking of smart city, Mangaluru should be unique.
    connectivity is most important.
A)If Mangalore city is considered centre point, It should be connected radially by 6 main(or more)fast track railway or metro lines. see Google map of Dakshina kannada.
    1) mangalore- padubidri- udupi manipal
    2)mangalore-MRPL-Kateel-Belman-Kollur
    3)mlore-bajpe airport-muchur-niddodi-moodbidri-karkal
    4)mlore-Dharmasthala-Hassan-Belur-Halebidu-Bangalore
    5)Mlore -puttur-sullya-madikeri-Mysuru-Ooty-coimbatore.
    6)Mlore -Ullal-manjeshwar-Kerala.
All these lines should be circularly connected gradually.

B)along side we should have good roads (some available now).

C)Then we should have circular or scientific method of connecting water bodies, rivers, giving more importance to massive rain water collection and percolation.

D)Electricity generation, giving solid push for solar power in many regions like Niddodi.

E)agriculure develoment -cashew, coffee, mango, areca, cocoa, pepper, coconut, rice, vegetable, banana, animal husbandry, fishery.

F)giving importance to tourism-cruise ships, air travel.
connectivity and lack of decent hotels is main hindrance for tourism development. beach development.
some of the tourism places along these lines are-Udupi temple, murudeshwar, kollur temple, kateel, karkala, jog falls, dharmasthala, belur halebidu, madikeri, kerala and wild life sanctuary.

G)lot of scope for health sector, educational institutions, fishery, electronics, ship building etc.

    H) Low cost housing in the smart city for labor force and domestic helps so that people live in interdependence.
Keeping this blue print in mind, let us work towards Mangaluru smart city through people participation.

    Hi Dr Arun ,
I asked for comments so i feel its appropriate that I reply. consider it a debate.
A city means development of that city and not connectivity to larger parts of that state .
It inst the capital of the state nor the country to have connectivity to other districts HQ's and with regard to internal commutation, where is your CBD ? What is the backbone for industry other than MRPL, infosys . Give me a name of any company that employs more than 25K people .
River connectivity and stuff like that is to achieve what purpose ? These are illusions of grandeur , Nothing else. With reference to agriculture, education. fishing etc etc, these are livelihood options and have nothing to dowith management and application of branding a smart city
With regard to low cost housing is the only thing i take offence to in your write up .
Interdependence here is exploitation . Talk about minimum wage and not provisioning of low cost housing to have domestic help or labour force .
This is an country of equal opportunity and more over convert it to a country where dreams can true .
Lest i digress from where i started my reason for explaining hat goes into smart cities is based on that fact that i understand the same .
What i dont have with me today is the budget allocated .
For a thumb rule perspective : a road cost 6 crores a km for 4 lane and the TENDER for Sure pavements cost 8.5 crores per km
I already wrote about the cost that has been estimated for 24x7 water supply. Do you think the allocated budget is enough ?
Lets have a rational debate and let everyone who reads also start questioning the feasibility and work the sum in total that will be required , rather tah have massive launches and promise he world and not even get a sqft .

I apologize if i have offended you that was never the intention.

I was hear P.M speech in Pune on smart city and he was emphasizing on vision of people and city corporation over the development. He was appreciating cleanliness of Mysore ..In this concept do we think we are capable , our corporation if reservation adda, unqualified staffs and corruption in peak. our street are not cleaned and drains are blocked ..no one is concerned about the growth or improvement.. so why the Center has to waste money on such city instead spend somewhere worth it. There is no point in calling foul in allocation when we dont meet the criteria.

Smart city ? If water is rationed (once in three days), electricity is rationed (unnumbered severance in a week), roads are a net of pot-holes claiming lives day after day, food/commodities' cost rises sky-high, what will people do with smart city tag ?
