Mumbai, Jun 29 (Agencies) : The man, identified as Mohammed Abubakar, a resident of Gujarat was travelling on a Jet Airways flight from Dammam to Mumbai. He reportedly followed the air hostess on the flight asking her for a selfie. When she objected, Abubakar grabbed her by the shoulder and forcefully took a selfie.
"I was walking on board when the passenger (Abubakar) caught my hand and said 'Chalo na yaar, ek selfie lethe hai'. Despite objecting, he repeatedly misbehaved with me during the journey," the air hostess said in her complaint.
After she raised her voice other cabin crew members intervened.
He then calmly went into the flight washroom and lit up a cigarette. Smoking is strictly against rules in flights and has a heavy penalty if someone is caught smoking. Also, any flammable objects, sharp objects and especially explosives or sensitive items like cigarette lighters are not allowed in flights. How Mohammed managed to bypass security and sneak in his lighter is also a matter of concern. As soon as he exited the washroom, the alert crew members immediately asked for his cigarette pack and lighter which he handed over.
"Seeing them, Abubakar went to the toilet. He came out after smoking in there. The crew warned him and asked him to hand over his cigarette packet and lighter," said sub-inspector VS Pawar.
A probe has also been ordered into how he managed to get the cigarette and lighter through the security check.
The man who was arrested on landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport reportedly told police that he clicked the selfie "for fun".
