Bengaluru, Jun 29: A number of leaders in the BJP, angered by the fact that list of office bearers in the state was drawn up by Yeddyurappa without discussing the matter in core committee, have been adamant in demanding withdrawal of the list of office bearers already circulated, and make new appointments after holding discussions in core committee.
Many of the dissidents have turned their guns at BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa, and general secretary, Shobha Karandlaje, accusing them of taking one-sided and discriminatory decisions and policies.
At the same time, leaders are aware that Yeddyurappa's chances of scrapping the earlier list and making fresh appointments are remote. He might agree to drop a few names and add new names in their places at the most. If this exercise does not make people happy, the drama might shift to New Delhi.
In an open expression of brewing discontent, hundreds of unhappy leaders from different districts who participated in a meeting held at the party office on Tuesday June 28, objected to the way Yeddyurappa has been behaving. The meeting went on for about six hours.
Party leaders, C T Ravi, Bhanuprakash and others will meet senior leaders, Anant Kumar, Sadanand Gowda, Jagadish Shettar, Prahlad Joshi and R Ashok on this issue. They are likely to hold deliberations with stalwarts in Sangh Parvar, it is gathered. These office bearers will then pool the opinions and meet Yeddyurappa to bring the crux of objections to his attention. Core committee is scheduled to meet after this happens.
There are rumours that Sangh parivar leaders too are unhappy over Yeddyurappa's way of functioning, and that they indirectly supported the idea of disgruntled party people to hold meeting.
Union law minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, responding to the above development, said that Yeddyurappa enjoys full powers to appoint party office bearers and that there is no dissidence in the state unit of the party. Karandlaje also said that Yeddyurappa has been vested with total authority to make appointments and that he has made appointments after holding discussions with people concerned.
