Bengaluru, Jul 1: Leader of the opposition in legislative council, K S Eshwarappa, has said that he will not be attending the meeting of BJP legislators and parliamentarians scheduled for Saturday, July 2.
When such a senior leader, holding a responsible and important role and a legislator himself, decides not to attend a state level meeting called by state BJP chief Yeddyurappa, the magnitude of the problem has been taken seriously by other BJP leaders.
Eshwarappa, on June 23. had expressed his resentment at the way district presidents of BJP committees were appointed. He had objected to the way in which announcement was made about appointment of office bearers of the party by Yeddyurappa, without holding discussions on this issue at the core committee meeting of the party. He had also threatened that he would be raising the topic with top leadership of the party.
He had even met few leaders from the party and brought his displeasure to their notice. He had told them that Yeddyurappa and party general secretary Shobha Karandlaje are sidelining the original party workers and favouring people with KJP background. But Yeddyurappa and Karandlaje had dismissed the charges levelled against them.
Eshwarappa who wants to complain to the Sangh Parivar bosses and BJP leaders in New Delhi has adopted ‘wait and see’ policy for few days as he is aware that going alone there will be of no much help. He wants to get more people on his side before that.
Yeddyurappa has meanwhile said that there is no problem in the party as reported in the media. “There is no dissidence in the party. A debate in party office cannot be termed as dissidence. What was reported and what transpired were different. I was not in Bengaluru on that day and hence could not attend the meeting.”
Yeddyurappa was referring to the core meeting held on June 28 in which hundreds of unhappy leaders from different districts objected to the way Yeddyurappa has been behaving. The duration of the meeting exceeded six hours. This is clearly an embarrassing thing for a party chief.
“Every important issue will be discussed in the meeting.” Yeddyurappa said.
It is not yet known what is going to be Eshwarappa’s next step.
