Mangalore, Nov 17: The Deccan Aviation Company will be starting an international flight from Mangalore international airport in 2008, informed Captain G R Gopinath, executive chairman of the company.

Delivering a talk on the topic ‘Opportunities and challenges in aviation industry,’ at Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) office here on Friday November 16 evening, he disclosed the above information. However, he did not say anything about the destination point.

Going back to his earlier days of struggle, he said that, when he had left the defence services, he had just Rs 6,380 which he got as gratuity. He also mentioned about how much he had to struggle in his life after that point. However, he firmly opined that one’s goals could be achieved if a person has commitment, passion and clear vision.

In his speech Captain Gopinath observed that he found billions of hungry consumers around him and he often thought about them. According to him the men on the street are regularly purchasing TV, fridge and other consumer items. However, when it comes to air tickets they were not buying any air ticket, owing to exorbitant rates. Hence, he thought of introducing this cheapest air service especially for the middle class people, he pointed out.

“Linking small towns to big capital cities is essential to increase the total air traffic segment. It is for this reason Deccan then introduced air services to smaller towns. With this in view, Deccan purchased several aircrafts within a few years what Indian Airlines could achieve in 50 years,” he proudly declared.

India and China are representing the dreams and future prospects of the world. India is today within range of such infinite possibilities. The country too is aspiring for such possibilities and this in turn has helped Deccan to achieve a lot to a large extent. Hence in this context he proudly predicted that the country is heading for a “Golden Age”

On the occasion Gopinath was felicitated by Ananthakrishna, chairman of Karnataka Bank, on behalf of KCCI. Ananthakrishna said that a person who takes unconventional decisions is always a successful person. According to him, Captain Gopinath took such unconventional decisions and achieved success in his work. He ensured that, a person from the agricultural field also can fly in aircraft. Nowhere in any other part of the country this kind of attempt has been made, Ananthakrisha eulogized about Captain Gopinath.

KCCI president Kumble Narasinha Prabhu, office-bearers Ahmed Bava, Shrinivas S Kamath, Shekhar Poojary and Mohandas Prabhu were present on the dais.

Capt. Gopinath's vision & achievements may be very good & I congratulate him. But, he has to come out of the cheap minsdset and offer a good customer service. His Air Deccan staff are very poorly groomed which I realised when I flew for the first & last time from Dharamsala to Delhi during last summer vacation. They were trying to cheat me and trying to extort excess baggage charges when we 3 family members had a total of less than 60 kg baggage incl. cabin baggage Their arguement was one of the check-in baggage was more than 15 kgs as they allow only 15 kg per person free check in baggage & another 10 kg as cabin baggage

Finally, I had to remove some items from the checked in baggage to the cabin baggage to satify his girls in the check in counter who do not give a complaint form on demand. Even Air Deccan counter in Delhi did not have a complaint / customer feedback form, whereas when I fly in Kingfisher & give a complaint, i get a prompt reply. Hope take over of Air Deccan by Mallya may improve the services of Air Deccan. Nice to see my childhood friend Ananthakrishna, now Karnataka Bank Chairman on the picture. Thanks to Daijiworld.

This is very good news. I am operating few taxis in Bajpe Air port thus every day I am monitoring the timings of flight from gulf. The Air india flights never maintain their scehdule, it will cause trouble not only passengers but for us also making problems. At the begining the flights were maintaining time but now the delay of minimum 1 hour and maximum 6 hours is common for air india. Once in a while when they landed at a correct time, we are surprising. Air India knows that passengers are not telling them anything. Jet airways timing is very perfect. they come and go in time because they worried that passengers may fly in indian air oine flight or king fisher flights.

Well!it,s great that CaptGopinath has shown a new world aviation in Indian scenario n also made it possible to the middle class people to get the taste of flying even sometime the poor people too with just Re.1/=..people are really grateful to him. But Mr.R.K Laxman has given the logo to Deccan Airways(perhaps without chrges)as he will be serving to the poor villager..now what abt that LOGO??Mr Laxman is not remembered as he has got money magnet as his business associate!!!!What,s the use of saying that he got only Rs.6380/= as graturity, now this amt has rchd to 6380........by ignoring the sentiment of Mr.Laxman. He would be going long way in his life...we wish too.
