New Delhi, Nov 20: The Union Cabinet has decided to impose President’s rule in Karnataka and also placed the State Assembly under suspended animation.

The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held this morning at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss Karnataka situation.

The Cabinet reportedly accepted Karanataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur suggestions for Presidents rule, as there was no possibility of any alternative government.

The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) met late last night where Manmohan Singh considered Thakurs report, but took no decision.

The Governor had sent his report to the Cabinet soon after Yeddyurappa resigned from the post of chief minister, as he lacked the requisite numbers on the floor of the House.

Yedyurappa yesterday said he was ‘cheated’ by the JD(S) leadership, not once but twice.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh termed the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) decision as a ‘betrayal’, and said that it was former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy who decided to give them an ‘unconditional’ support for forming the next government in the State after President’s rule was invoked in the State.

A shocked BJP in Delhi has given indication that the party is ready to face mid-term polls in the State, and would try to highlight the twice betrayal by the JD (S).

This is the second time since October the JD (S) has pulled the rug under the feats of the BJP.

A month ago, on October 7, the BJP had to withdraw its support from the coalition after the JD (S) failed to live up with its promise to hand over the power to Yeddyurappa as per the agreement reached between the two-parties twenty months ago.

With no party ready to form the government in the State, Centre rule was imposed on Thakur’s recommendation.

However, the BJP-JD (S) short lived ‘divorce’ came to an end within a fortnight, after JD (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, gave a letter to the Governor confirming his party’s ‘unconditional’ support to the BJP.

This led the BJP, close on leading a South Indian State for the first time, to demand revoking of the President’s rule in the State. Though the Governor was not convinced about the stability of the next BJP-JD (S) coalition, the Centre’s rule was revoked paving the way for Yeddyurappa to form the next government in the State.

In the present State Assembly, the BJP has the highest number of legislators with 79 MLAs, followed by the Congress with 65 MLAs, which excludes the eight other members led by former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who broke away from the JD (S) to join the Congress.

Kumaraswamy led JD (S) has officially 57 members in the legislature, but its strength is down to 48 after Siddaramaiah’s defection.

The smaller parties and independents only add to 17 in the 224-member Assembly.

But after JD (S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda announced opposing the government in the floor test by alleging that many things were going on Yeddyurappa’s mind, it became clear that the BJP was again taken for a ride by the JD (S).

The BJP did not heed to the JD (S) demand of signing the 12-point MoU that would have led to the former parting away from the crucial portfolios in the next cabinet.

I do not trust most Indian politicians and consider them to be totally corrupt, disgraceful breed, who have no semblance of decency and they are in politics just to line their pockets. Sadly, crooks have very strong followings and support, simply because these supporters get crumbs which may be quite significant. Sadly, there are people, especially those who are naive, ill-informed and paranoid, who are carried away by the charisma of certain politicians and treat them as icons and hinge the existence and progress of the country on their shoulders.

This is just ludicrous and laughable and I feel sorry for the ignorance of these blokes. Any well informed Indian knows the reputation of H.D. Deve Gowda and his role in his son becoming the Chief Minister of Karnataka. As far as I am concerned, I do not trust both these father and son as far as I can sniff. The political hungama was predictable. Therefore, I wonder how seasoned and senior politicians of BJP were taken for a ride. This State should be under President's rule for quite some time, during which investigations should be initiated against both these despicable creatures to find out from how did they manage to amass their wealth?

Once again good riddance of bad rubbish is all what one can say of this tamasha or end of a farce. It is nothing but a stupid drama enacted by two bickering partners with the sole aim of grabbing power and making a mockery of the people's mandate .Finally no tears will be shed for the premature demise of an illegal government built solely on personal ambition and political opportunism. One more positive feature after the fall of this 7 day old govt. would be the waste and misuse of state funds on unwanted non developmental and communal activities will stop once and for all.\

Had Yeddyurappa continued as C.M. he would have doled out huge sums at the cost of the state exchequer for pursuing and operationalising his party's communal agenda and anti social elements would have had a field day by dragging religion into the streets in the guise of organising endless functions by inviting Ministers to preside over them .

Karnataka now needs a long spell of President's rule before it goes to the polls as the state has seen enough political farce over the last 20 months . For once these shameless creatures should be confined to their homes and forbidden from venturing out into the streets and vitiate the atmosphere and sow the seeds of disharmony among the communities. The Governor and his advisors should run the administration with a firm hand and totally eliminate corruption, favouratism and nepotism at all levels. The fruits of development should reach the poor and the needy and the weaker sections, women and the economically poor class of the minority communities like Muslims, Christians, Jains, Buddhists and SCs/STs.

JD(S) should have given the chance to BJP as per condition. next time if Devagowda and Kumaraswamy make their election campaign they should be stoned. because when a person does not stick to his promise, given in front of the whole state , how can people expect him to run the state. both of them can be called as shikandies.
