Margao train derails - alert passengers avert disaster

Mangaluru, Jul 17: A compartment of the train what was moving towards the city from Margao derailed on Saturday July 16. The incident happened between Mangalore Junction and Mangaluru Central railway stations.

Alert passengers immediately pulled the emergency chain and brought the train to a stop before anything serious happened. The train had reached Mangalore Junction station on Saturday afternoon, and left the station towards its final destination, Central station, at 12.32 pm.

Within 300 metres from the station, the third compartment of the train derailed. The passengers immediately pulled the chain. As it took time to bring the compartment on the track, the Mumbai-Mangaluru train moved behind schedule by an hour, railway officials stated.
