Bengaluru, Jul 19: What step George can take after the court in Madikeri directed the police to file FIR against him? What steps police can take now? These are the questions being asked by people after the court verdict and George’s resignation on Monday. Meanwhile it is reported that George has approached famous criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani to represent him.
The police in Madikeri will have to file an FIR as per court direction against their former boss George who was home minister till last year. Once FIR is filed, George becomes the accused and he will have to appear at police station for interrogation. He can even be arrested if situation arises. But as the government is headed by Congress, the party he belongs to, there is a less chance of this situation taking place. George will have to appear before the judicial commission also which is also probing the case. He will have to defend himself during the probes by police and judicial commission.
Before that George can appeal to the higher court questioning the decision of Madikeri court. And it is believed that George is going to take this step at the soonest. Sources say, he has already approached famous criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani for this purpose.
If there any indication that he would be arrested, George may apply for anticipatory bail in a court.
Other two senior police officers, ADGP (intelligence) A M Prasad and Lokayukta IGP Pranob Mohanty, who have gone on forced leave too will go through the same procedure like George. But if they are detained for more than 48 hours, then they will have to resign to their posts.
Tuesday July 19 is an important day for all these three persons named by DySP Ganapati before he ended his life. They are all expected to take first steps in protecting themselves as all of them are well versed in law matters.
