Mangalore, Nov 22: At present the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is busy modernizing and expanding six airports including the city airport amongst other airports like Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Coimbatore, Vishakapatnam and Kozhikode. Financial allocation for these projects by the AAI has been to the tune of Rs 227 crore, this year as against Rs 185 crore made last year.
According to the regional executive director of Airports Authority of India (AAI), K Ramalingam the expansion and modernization plans undertaken by them is now helping non-metro airports turn profitable.
Without revealing any figures, he informed that the city airport and one at Vishakapatnam had registered good profits in the last fiscal and other few airports in the country are expected to earn equally good profits in the present fiscal.
Moreover, he also informed that the Mangalore airport too is being modernized. It has got a new arrival lounge cum hall and plans were on the cards for a new terminal building and strengthening of the present runway.
