Bengaluru, Jul 22: The state high court division bench, which has reversed the verdict of the 14th fast track court that had absolved Ravikumar alias Ravi, resident of Basaveshwaranagara in the city of the charge of murdering his friend, sentenced him to life term through a judgement delivered recently.

The accused was facing charge of murdering his friend who had evinced interest in the girl whom Ravi had loved, and then burning his face after dousing it with kerosene to destroy evidence. The crime had happened nine years back in the city.

The division bench presided over by Mohan Shantana Goudar and Justice R B Budhihal, said that circumstantial evidences have established the crime of the accused. Therefore it annulled the judgement of the lower court.

Statement given by the elder sister of deceased Kumar, death note written by the accused in the name of the murdered person, statements of witnesses and close look at the incidents prove that the accused was involved with the crime. Therefore, the bench concluded that the accused was being awarded life sentence. At the same time, it absolved second accused, Vasu, from the charges. There were no eyewitnesses in the case except Ravikumar.

Ravikumar from Shivanagara was doing work as painter of buildings. He used to visit the house of his elder sister, Manjula, often, and fell in love with a girl who lived opposite his sister's home. He noticed that Kumar, also living in the neighbourhood, had started to love the same girl. After enmity broke out between the two, Ravikuar took Kumar away with the help of another friend, Vasu, and murdered him. He then burnt his face after pouring kerosene and then dumped body in a drum. He also kept a death note i n the pocket of the victim before fleeing.

Two days later, a person saw the body and complained to police. During police investigation, they found that Ravikuar had gone missing. They suspected his involvement in the crime. Kumar was arrested from Nelamangala after a prolonged search.
