Udupi: Temple wall collapses killing two workers, two seriously injured

Udupi, Jul 23: Two workers were killed after a wall of historical Sri Veerabhadra temple at Hiriyadka collapsed during renovation on Saturday evening, July 23.

The deceased have been identified as Prasad Devadiga (30) and Lokesh (28).

Shivaprasad and Prakash Sherigar have sustained serious injuries during the incident. They have been admitted to nearby KMC hospital, Manipal.

As per details, five workers were renovating the temple when one of the dilapidate walls collapsed. The renovation work only commenced today. Two others who were trapped under the wall were rescued by people.

The temple renovation is under way in preparation for Brahmakalasotsava slated for 2017.

A case stands registered at Hiriyadka police station.

District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj visited the place.

    Its heartbreaking to hear the death of youngsters due to man made mistakes. The walls will be soft with dampness due to rainy season and its not the right time to carry out such activities during rainy season. May their souls rest in peace and their loved ones get strength and peace to bear the loss of their loved one

    Mostly old houses and temples built with mud walls. Surprising me the timing to renovate in the rainy season. who ever took the decision to do now should be booked for negligence and causing death.

    An unexpected tragedy where a dilapidated wall collapsed. Two people were killed and few were injured of which two sustained serious injuries. May the soul of the deceased rest in eternal peace and sympathies to the bereaved families and loved ones. I wish a speedy recovery of those injured in this incident.     This is what generally happens when Engineers are not consulted...!!!??? To save some money people lose life. Yes generally construction is done by masons and labourer, but engineers advise also important which may add a little more money for construction.

    To do roof repair engineers are not required. carpenter and mason is enough . unfortunately the time to do the repair is not right.

    In Karnataka, all is fake, corrupt and desperate party-fund raising. Temples, churches and mosques will crumple down in curse of such monstrous corruption and the curse of suiciders will ruin our beautiful state until the Saviour sets in after the elections!
