Kundapur, Jul 25: Families of six children deceased in the Trasi accident received compensation on Monday, July 25.

Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary handed over the compensation of Rs 50,000 each through cheque to the families at Hemmady. The compensation was paid from teachers’ and children welfare fund.

8 children had died in a tragic accident that took place between a Maruti Omni car carrying students from Don Bosco School and a bus on June 21. As 2 of the deceased students were studying in UKG, their families could not be paid any compensation. The rule in the teachers’ and children welfare fund says that only the families of children above first standard should get compensation. Gopala Poojary said he will bring the matter to the notice of government and make honest efforts to get the compensation for the families who have been left out now.

Byndoor education officer Nagesh Naik, Byndoor primary school teachers’ association president Vishwanath Poojary, Katbelthur gram panchayat president Sharath Kumar Shetty and Shekar Balegar were present among others.

The compensation from Govt. is very meagre. Should have been given at least 5 lakhs each.

Shame on those in power...make roads safe.

Honestly this must not be called "Compensation" but "Penalty" which should be extracted from Politicians and officials who are responsible for safety

FIRST OF ALL WE PRAY ALMIGHTY TO PLACE THE SOUL OF KIDS IN PEACE AND GIVE SUFFICIENT ENERGY TO THE FAMILY TO WITHSTAND THE LOSS OF LIVES.
WE CANNOT EXPECT THIS SLEEPY GOVT. WILL COME FORWARD (ALL THESE DAYS) BUT JUST TO SHARE AS TOKEN OF GRIEF WITH THE AVAILABLE PTA FUNDS AND VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS BY THE LIKE MINDED PEOPLE IRRESPECTIVE OF WHICH PARTY THEY BELONGS TO AND NEED NOT BE MADE PUBLIC LIST OF DONORS.
WHATEVER AMOUNT RS. IN LACS/CRORES CANNOT MATCH THE VALUE OF KIDS.
IT IS ON OUR PART TO CONTRIBUTE INSTEAD OF COMMENTING ON THE ISSUE OF COMPENSATION BY SCHOOL/PEOPLE.

Compensation is only a solatium. The Schools and the District Administration should ensure that the van drivers are given a half day orientation in the school premises on safe driving through proper qualified counsellors. Schools should also consider to allow children who come by School vans (both institution and private vehicles) if they reach a little late say 15 minutes. This will avoid reckless driving to meet the time schedule. In Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts where the private buses ply in large numbers and accidents are high compared to the public transport the Government should consider imposing fines which are high to the tune of Rs.50000 in case of accidents resulting in death or grievous injury and cancellation for life of drivers license if his/her driving has resulted in accidents three times.

Good gesture but sad to know that two of the students are not eligible to get compensation as per the school's rule, which is very heart aching. They too are part of their school and hence they too be compensated as others without any bias. This is only from the teacher's welfare fund but what about elected representatives? Are they simply posing for the camera and keep quiet. They have to do something great for the poor families of six Trasi tragedy.Hope they will act decisively.God bless all the six families of Trasi tragedy children.Injustice should not be inflicted to the families of children.Provide justice without any prejudice, bias and political motives. Here money is not important but eh concern, sympathy, which is the need of the hour because they lost their precious, admirable, adorable lives of their children.

I feel sorry!!! When a compensation of Rs. 50000 is given from a private fund why this so called MLA has to hand over the cheque. He is not paying from his pocket & why the media is covering such a disgraceful event. Such a shame. If he really wants to do something about the safety of children let him & the media lead the way by implementing the supreme court judgement regarding the rules on school transport. I feel when a parent can afford pizzas & burgers at exorbitant rates they can shell out some more money for their children safety.

Rs. 50,000/- only..... are we joking....!!! I understand that the funds in Teacher and Student Welfare could be limited...but our elected representatives have enough funds for everything else. I earnestly hope that our elected representatives come forward and give enough monetary support to the families in this time of grief.

It is good to know that families of six children who were killed in the Trasi tragedy got compensation from the Teachers' and Children Welfare Fund. Due to rules, the families of other two children who died in the tragedy could not get it. I hope they will also get something through some other sources.

I feel sorry for these MLA and other leaders who are not able to provide good compensation at least Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin. Shame on you who valued life of innocent children for mere 50 thousand. All the politicians rushed to mourning houses not for their real concern for the sufferers but for their publicity. Such a terrific accident and government and all elected representatives failed to give worth spot compensation.

    I quote from the news:

Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary handed over the compensation of Rs 50,000 each through cheque to the families at Hemmady. The compensation was paid from teachers’ and children welfare fund.
    Unquote.

I think this compensation was paid from the Teachers and children welfare fund. It is a private fund from the teachers of all the schools and not from the government.

I hope that they must receive good amount as compensation from the government.

Suppose the amount is collected from the teachers the amount is a hardly collected by the teachers themselves and we should be grateful to them.

MY HEARTY THANKS TO THE TEACHERS.

This time I endorse Jossey mamu in toto. Why this compensation from teachers welfare fund. This should have been paid by govt.50000 is like pea nut value for precious lives lost. When pattha kalva was paid Rs.10 lakhs how govt can keep quiet on this sensitive issue. This is insult to injury.
