Udupi, Jul 26: K Annamalai, the popular superintendent of police (SP) of Udupi district, has been transferred with immediate effect to Chikkamagaluru.
K T Balakrishna, an IPS officer of 2006 batch, will take over the charge from Annamalai.
Presently, Balakrishna is serving as SP of Gadag district. He has earlier served as deputy commandant general of Home Guards and ex-officio deputy director of civil defence in Bengaluru, as SP of Uttara Kannada district and principal of Police Training School, Channapatna.
Annamalai, known to be an efficient, strict yet people-friendly officer, took charge as SP of Udupi district in January 2015. Towards the end of the near there were talks of his transfer to Bengaluru due to political and other reasons, but it was put off due to panchayat and MLC elections.
Annamalai has been serving in Udupi district for the past three years, first as ASP of Karkala with additional charge of Kundapur, and then as SP of Udupi district from the past one-and-a-half years. Normally, ASP is not promoted to the of SP in the same district, but an exception was made in case of Annamalai due to his uprightness and efficiency.
