Bantwal, Jul 28: A male student and his female friend, both of whom came from different religious backgrounds, moved about in B C Road together. As this gave rise to tense moments, the police summoned them to the police station. Their parents were then contacted, and the concerned were allowed to go after issuing warning.
As per information gathered, both of them belong to Mudigere. While the boy happens to be a student of an engineering college, the girl is a PU student at Mangaluru. It is said that both know each other well as they studied in the same high school at Mudigere.
The girl had visited Mudigere on Saturday. On Wednesday, she reportedly reached Ujire along with her friend, Salman, in a van. From Ujire, they reached B C Road by a private bus.
The girl claimed that she was going to Mangaluru to collect certificate from school. Some local Hindu organizations expressed the view that this was a part of Love Jihad operation.
After he came to know about the incident, local police circle inspector, B K Manjaiah, personally handled the issue and settled it amicably. Station house officer of the town police station, Nandakumar, said that he had issued stern warning to the parents of the students.
