Bengaluru, Jul 29: Senior police officers, Pranav Mohanty and A M Prasad, have withdrawn petitions filed by them in the high court (HC), seeking a stay against a Madikeri court order to register case against them relating to suicide committed by deputy superintendent of police, M K Ganapati. The HC, on Thursday July 28, disposed off their petitions after passing directions to hold impartial probe.
Presiding officer of the single judge bench of the HC, Justice Anand Byrareddy, instructed the government to conduct investigation into Ganapati's suicide under the supervision of high ranking officials.
Ganapati's son, Nehal Ganapati, had approached the district court at Madikeri, seeking instructions to the police to register first information report against senior police officers, Mohanty and Prasad. The court had upheld the request, and ordered registration of FIR against these two police officers and K J George. Both the officers had approached the HC seeking dismissal of the court order. The HC had questioned them as to why they are apprehensive about facing probe when they have claimed themselves to be innocent in the case.
