Mangalore, Nov 25: A symposium on ‘an introspection into prevailing Konkani literature’ was held at Samanvaya Auditorium, located at Urwa Stores, in the city on Sunday, November 25 morning, jointly organized by Samanvya, KitRichie Trust, Karkala and Konkani Writers’ Forum Karnataka.
Ajay Menezes from United Kingdom (UK) inaugurated the symposium by lighting the traditional lamp and said that, he would take the flame of Konkani like the Olympics torch to UK, in order to share it with the natives settled there.
Dr Gerry Niddody, Konkani Litterateur and Professor of Physics, delivered the talk on ‘contemporary aspects of Konkani literature’, emphasized the transition of Konkani since the past, wherein the authors were writing out of their wealth of life experiences who seems to restrict themselves to the boundaries of religion besides their works were less romantic and sensual.
Dr Edward L Nazaret, Konkani Litterateur and Professor at Fr Mullers’ Medical College and Hospital, Kankanady, delivered lecture on ‘recent developments in Konkani literary sphere’ stressed the need for the Konkani authors to come out of the shackles of religion, to present masterpieces with due consideration for romance and sensuality, which are inherent aspects of human being.
Fr Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto, history researcher and manager of Samanvaya, presided over the programme.
Two Konkani books were released at the occasion. The novel, ‘Hanv Thuka Bhogsumchim na’ authored by H J Goveas, published by Punov Publications was released by Edwin J F D’Souza, member of General council of Sahitya Academy. The humourous articles ‘Bulbule’ authored by CJS Taccode, was released by Fr Dr Ronald Coutinho, convener of Samavaya.
Dr Gerry Niddody and Rons Bantwal, chief reporter of Vijaya Karnataka in Mumbai, the recepients of ‘Divo’ award by Divo Konkani weekly published from Fort, Mumbai including Hilary Crasta, staff reporter of ‘Udayavani’ Kannada coastal daily, the recipient of DK district Rajyotsava Award and Edwin J F D’Souza, selected for central Sahitya Academy, were felicitated by Dr Fr Pius Fidelis Pinto, at the same occasion.
Rons Bantwal, staff correspondent of www.daijiworld.com, while acknowledging the honours said that one can individually contribute his mite for the community, although organizations can do in a big way, citing the examples in this regard.
The veteran Konkani Litterateurs and poets, Melvyn Rodrigues, Vitori Karkal, Maccha Milar, J F D’Souza, Dolphy Cascia, John Moniz, Shalini Valencia, Irene Pinto, Edie Netto, Gladys Rego and eminent personalities were present.
Dr Ronald Coutinho welcomed. Dolphy Cascia compered the programme and Santu Bantwal proposed vote of thanks.
