Mangaluru, Jul 31: Parish priest of Bendore parish here, Fr Antony Serrao, inaugurated Canara Catholic Konkani MCs' Meet held at the mini hall of Bendore church on Saturday, July 30.
In his inaugural address, Fr Serrao said, "The MCs must keep in mind that they emulate the role of Gurkar of a ward in every function. All of you are extremely talented." He wished that their talents will benefit the society.
Recalling his memories as an MC, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com, Walter Nandalike, said that the experience he had gained by compering a number of programmes in and around Mangaluru had come in handy in compering programmes at Dubai. Addressing the young MCs gathered at the programme, he advised, "There is nothing wrong in adopting a famous compere as your role model. But never ever imitate them. Maintain your uniqueness and only then you will emerge as a good compere."
Speaking on the occasion, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann and former president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Eric Ozario said, "The first gathering of Catholic MCs was held in my house way back in 1975. The fruit of that gathering is being enjoyed by every MC as we were never paid for our service." He felt that there is a need to hold workshop to repeat and reinforce traditional values and rules, as it is the need of the hour.
Comperes, Leslie Rego and Alwyn Danthy briefed about the mistakes the MCs generally commit and came up with suggestions to overcome them.
A panel discussion was organized on this occasion with panelists, Vincent Alva, Titus Noronha and Arthur D'souza, which was moderated by Jude Noronha.
Roshan Crasta welcomed while Roshal Fernandes proposed vote of thanks. Manu Bantwal compered the programme.
