Kasargod, Jul 31: A dead body of a labourer has been found in red stone quarry in Lenkinadka near Kayyar on Sunday, July 31.
The deceased has been identified as Everest Rodrigues (49) from Lenkinadka.
It is suspected that Everest might have slipped and fallen into the quarry while going back home on Saturday night. Since his wife had been to Mangaluru and children had been to relative’s place, the incident had not come to the notice of family members.
A lady who was passing by the same way at about 11 am on Sunday noticed the dead body and informed the locals and thus the incident came to light.
Kumble police who visited the spot shifted the body to Kasargod general hospital for post-mortem. The deceased was working as bus conductor for many years. But from
past few years he had been working as daily wage labourer. He was scheduled to fly abroad for job in first week of September.
Everest is survived by wife Anitha, children- Anush Powell, Ancilla Maria, Anisha Monica and Ashel Mariel.
People have complained that cutting the red stones and not closing the pit has resulted in this tragic incident. Even though there are orders from the deputy commissioner that these pits should be closed after cutting the red stones and fencing should be done, the orders are seldom followed.
