Karkala, Aug 2: A person who has been facing multiple cases, suffered deep injuries after he was attacked with sharp weapons near a bar at Doopadakatte, Attur near here on Monday August 1. The injured person has been identified as William D'Souza (45), who reportedly has been identified with underground elements.
William told the police that Harish Poojary from Baidal in Doopadakatte and another person, Annaiah, had attacked and seriously injured him. William, who had collapsed due to injuries, was rushed to the government hospital in the town by the locals. From there, he was taken to Manipal as he was in need of sophisticated treatment.
While Harish has been identified as a local, there is no clear information about Annaiah named in the complaint. The accused fled after the attack, and hence, could not be found. Harish Poojary owns and operates a tempo. It is said that William had attacked Harish Poojary with a sickle near Cherkadottu arch in 2014 before escaping. Harish was under medical care then for six months. It is suspected that the current attack was in retaliation for the previous incident.

In connection with the above case, William had been arrested but he had secured release. William had later been arrested on May 20, 2016, after his mother complained about hoarding of arms illegally at home. The police had confiscated pistol, ammunition, knives etc during this raid. He had been released from the district prison at Hiriyadka two weeks ago.
Police said that William D'Souza's name had often figured in incidents of violence, theft, sale of hooch, posing of life threat etc.
