Muscat, Nov 28: Gonu catastrophe……. nature's fury on the Sulatnate of Oman in the month of June 2007 is a disaster which cannot be easily wiped off from the common man’s mind world-wide, specially people living in the Gulf.
The dynamic team of www.daijiworld.com from Oman, under the able leadership of Clarence Pinto managed to capture some of the most unforgettable shots of the aftermath. Dilip Correa and Monica Dantes too wasted no time in capturing the earliest pictures and Daijiworld was in fact one of the first media sites to flash the pictorial report of the scene, after the disaster stuck in June , 2007.

The report and pictures have been viewed by not only thousands of viewers but also by major organizations world-wide especially environmental activists. One such organization has been the United Nations environment programme in Nairobi, Kenya, which duly impressed by the images has requested Daijiworld to re-produce the pictures to be used in the forthcoming publication of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Year Book 2008.
The production of the UNEP Year Book series is part of UNEP's portfolio of information materials to bridge the gap between science and policy and enhance awareness among various constituents so that they are better informed to improve decision-making and policy development and implementation at different levels.
This year book is an exceptionally important publication, as it is used as a focal document at the UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum to inform policy makers on environmental issues related to the previous year as well as emerging challenges. s
Project assistant Jason R Jabbour of the division of early warning and assessment, United Nations Environment programme has communicated its intention to Daijiworld in this regard.
