Udupi, Aug 10: At present, inspector of Manipal police station S V Girish has been functioning as investigating officer in the case pertaining to the murder of entrepreneur Bhaskar Shetty. There have been rumours that Girish has been replaced with an IPS grade officer.
The police department is tight-lipped over this information. There has been growing doubt in the minds of the people about the way investigation is being conducted in this case, as even after ten days since the murder took place, the police have not been able to gather strong evidence to prove the crime.
Even Shetty's family members feel that changing the investigating officer is desirable as there is a feeling that police are hiding something or leading the investigation in wrong direction.
Gulabi Shedti, mother of Bhaskar, during the meeting held on Tuesday August 9, told the media persons that she feels drained out at the fact that the body of her son has not been found. She recollected that she had time and again advised her son not to visit his wife and son. Some other members of the family felt that more people would have been involved with this murder.
The slow process in the investigation have raised the eyesbrows of many. Even during the process of Nirnjan Bhat's arrest, police were completley tight-lipped and had not disclosed the arrest news to public even fter 24-hours of arrest. "Perhaps a police officer like SP Annamalai is needed to this case. Lack of senior and experienced investigation officers may slowdown the case further" says an ex- Zilla Panchayath leader from Nandalike.
"This case is no less than the Sheena murder case. Only difference is, this is Indrali and that was Indrani! Why not case to be given to CID or CBI? Why there is no political will in this case? Something is smelling in this case because of money involved" says another teacher from Nandalike.
"The new SP has still not taken the charge, and caretaking SP is currently in power, perhaps caretaking SP has no power to take major decision, that could be the reason for less aggressive investigation in this." case says a businessman from Belman.
Chandrashekhar Shetty, a relative of Bhaskar, said that Rajeshwari had illicit affair while Navaneeth Shetty was also involved with a love affair. Bhaskar Shetty was opposing both these affairs, and had many a time threatened to transfer his property to his mother or someone else. Chandrashekhar added that the mother-son duo has been leading a luxurious life, and Rajeshwari's monthly telephone bill crossed Rs 40,000.
