It is learnt that policemen were moving on the road by the side of a rivulet near Padannakad, searching for an accused relating to a case. Seeing them, these three, who were conducting sand mining, turned panicky, and jumped into rivulet from their boat to escape from the police.
A local, who saw this incident, immediately informed the police. The police, with help from locals, rescued two among them. The body of Ravi, who had already drowned, was retrieved by fire brigade staff who reached the spot later.
It is said that the three persons were collecting sand from the rivulet and storing the same on the bank. But no one knows why they took so much risk and jumped into the rivulet at the sight of policemen.
