Moodbidri, Dec 1:
"Language is the miracle, at its expression" declared prof. M.Krishnegowda speaking here at the Alva's Nudisiri.

From 5 pm onwards there were spontaneous burst of  laughter and applause at the Alvas Nudisiri auditorium at Vidygiri as M Krishnegowda of Mysore, professor of Kannada,  mouthed  and wove a beautiful  web of  mesmerising words.

In his speech he remarked that it is like an undivided part of our life, that.we cannot live without speech. But the variety we are getting by extending into different areas are misleading, as its meaning changes. This is due to  the context in which and how we use the words. Giving an example he said "Disease is dis and a ease , where we can see pain and pleasure both at a time." Many a times, he said the words will also show one's culture.

The one hour programme here made people to contemplate and think about language and its uses in different contexts.

Dr. M. Mohan Alva who was on stage, seems to thoroughly enjoy the critical interpretation of the sentences .Chandrashekar Gowda compered the show.

Earlier Harish Sullia read a poem written by himself alongwith an explanation given on the context. M.S Giridar and his troop composed the music and sang the
said lyrics with notes. The voice for the songs were lent by Vasuda and Krishna Karanth.

Divyashree compered the event.

Moodbidri: Alvas’: A Novel, Enjoyable Experience Always
By Melka Miyar Daijiworld Media Network – (NR)

Moodbidri, Dec 1:
Dr Mohan Alva, the main inspiration and the brain behind the ‘Alvas Nudisiri’ is known for his creativity and innovative ideas. That’s why, one discovers something new in each and every programme that is always showcased here at the Moodbidri campus.

Yes, this time too there is a vast array of novel musical extravaganzas which would enthrall the listeners here. These are none other then those presented by the singers, who are gifted with musical talents. Unfortunately the main stream has till date failed to recognized their talent. However over here  at the Alva's Nudisiri they have been given an opportunity to show-case their talents.

A case in point is that of  the ‘Kinnara Jogis' who are busy entertaining the listeners here. The organizers have taken the trouble to bring them all the way from Soraba, which is a district in Shimoga. The Kinnara Jogi's occupation is usually to visit  different houses and entertain the town folk by singing songs and thereby earn their daily bread.

The participants here are thoroughly enjoying the songs sung by Lakshmanappa, Raghavendra and Shivamurtyappa. Especially the song ‘Aa kaala chendavo, Ee kaala chendavo’ sung by them, grabbed the attention of the music lovers here. The essence of the song is the deterioration of relationships within a family, which comes through so poignantly through these songs. Moreover, the beautiful rendition by the singers clearly indicates the fact that although these folk may lack formal education; but they were not lacking in the basic experience of life.

Meanwhile, the ‘Budaga Jangama’ community consisting of Shivaswami, Lakshman, Eresh and Chennabasappa were also singing folk, spiritual and other traditional songs. This is a Telugu speaking community that migrated from Koppal to Mangalore about 20 years’ ago. Now they are residing at Ekkur in the tents. No doubt, God has gifted them with musical talent. But that does not suffice for them to be able to build their own house, which greatly saddens them. What has made them happy however, is that Dr Mohan Alva has provided them a golden opportunity here to showcase their talents. So also Ranebennur Sankeshwara and Rama and his subordinates from Davanagere are busy presenting their skills before the audience here, who are throughly enjoying the show.

Serious Litterateurs Should Conquer Cinema: Nagatihalli Chandrashekhar
By Melka Miyar
(Updated at 19:30 IST)

Moodbidri, Dec 1:  Today’s cinema has gone far away from ‘knowledge.’ Serious litterateurs have kept this powerful media away from them, as it is untouchable. Litterateurs should conquer it for the welfare of it, said eminent Kannada cinema director Nagatihalli Chandrashekhar. He was speaking in a seminar titled "the cultural responsibilities of a litterateur" with special reference to cinema on Saturday, December 1.

By 2015, about 400 million Indian farmers would loose their land. They will not find any place in the cities to live in. The cinema directors and producers should depict these kinds of subjects and their aftermaths in their cinemas and should not shy away from the cinemas, he urged.

It is a myth that the common viewers are controlling the media. The unknown hands, who give advertisements, really control the media today. They pass on orders, what to give and not to give in print. This has resulted in the production of serials that satisfy only our housewives, he informed.

Cinema is an art combined with trade.  But the art has taken its back seat today and greed for money has occupied the front seat.  To bring about change in this trend, the entry of the litterateur is the need of the hour, he stressed.

Hitler-Chaplin:

“No doubt cinema is a powerful medium. Hitler used it to propagate autocracy.  At the same time, the great comedian Charlie Chaplin used this medium to condemn the autocracy. But today this media has been handed over to businessmen, he said.

The cinema industry should use the language carefully. The cinema director should grasp the society well, before he should say something through cinema”, he advised.

Moodbidri: Adorable Radhakrishna - Centre of Attraction at Nudisiri

Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri (MM/NR) Updated at 17:00 Hrs IST

Moodbidri, Dec 1: One may have noticed, a tall plump man when entering the portals of ‘Alva’s Nudisiri.’ No doubt his physical persona is quite interesting. It is precisely owing to his physique that once upon a time, he even got an opportunity to be part of silver screen. However, he could not continue in it for long owing to his ill fate. There is a tragic tale behind the life history of 50-year-old Radhakrishna. But the best part is that in spite of all this, he keeps smiling through it all.

He speaks to all sharing his pleasures irrespective of their age, and this makes him the most adorable person to all. The people who visit ‘Alva's Nudisiri’ will also speak to Radhakrishna Naik and even click pictures with him. He is always happy to entertain others who visit there. However, there is great pain within about not being able to continue in the film industry. And there is a strong reason behind it.

To go back in time Radhakrishna was born and brought up in Banglegudde, which is close to Karkala town. From there later on he went to Hyderabad city to earn his livelihood. He even over there joined as a security office in a prestigious hotel. Many eminent film producers and directors were visiting this hotel those days. His impressive physical personality impressed them and they invited him to act in films. A door of great opportunity opened for him at that point.

Unfortunately this did not last long. The stunt masters trained him to perform various stunts in films, which he did accordingly. One fine day he met with an accident and his waist was severely damaged. This accident permanently shut the doors on his dreams of continuing in the film industry.

This incident occurred in his life around 25 years ago. Later he went back to Banglegudde and started a hotel business there. However, in this venture too he was not too successful and there was no big improvement in his life. After that he joined as a security officer at the Alva's institutions .He is happy now at the fact that his only daughter got married few months ago and that he has no major responsibilities to fulfill now.

He finds happiness in his work and never forgets to treat the students here as his own children. The students here also appreciate his friendly attitude. That is why he is the most popular person here amongst the student fraternity.

Moodbidri: ‘Kannada Essential but English cannot be Neglected’

by Melka Miyar - pics: Dayanand Kukkaje
Daijiworld Media Network – Moodbidri (MM)

Moodbidri, Dec 1: The litterateurs should do their best to bring the knowledge that is available in English into Kannada language. The litterateurs should bear this responsibility. There is no doubt that Kannada is essential. But English cannot be neglected, said well-known thinker Dr Lingadevaru Halemane.

Speaking about the responsibilities of a litterateur in education, here on Saturday, December 1, he said that the British rulers introduced English to bring modernization in education. But the mentality created here is that everything should be taught in English. Hence, the Kannada litterateurs are scared that the English language would overtake Kannada, he added.

The litterateurs are doing their best to develop Kannada language and culture. But unfortunately, the space for the development of Kannada has been contrived, he opined.

The language should become the tool and the study should be the objective. Meanwhile, one should find out the advantages of the mother tongue, he advised.

The state government allowed the private institutions to open English medium schools in Karnataka. Finally landed them in the court for introducing English in the schools. But these institutions are opening central syllabus schools to retain English in the schools, he informed.

Pro-Kannada people argue that one can grasp the matter easily by learning in Kannada. Meanwhile pro-English people argue that English can open opportunities at global-level.

Moreover, the globalization era is at the behest for the younger generation. That is why the opportunities do not limit only for Karnataka. The state government has not taken any pro-Kannada or pro-English decisions so far. The government has told to teach Kannada up to a certain level and later it is left to the student, he said.
