Udupi: Museum of Folk Arts Inaugurated in Manipal Heritage Village

Udupi, Dec 1: Dr Anna Kaisa Heikkinen, second secretary inaugurated the museum of folk arts of Hasta Shilpa Trust in Heritage Village, Manipal near here on Friday November 30.

Inaugurating the museum, Dr Anna Kaisa praised the works of Vijayanath Shenoy, founder secretary, Hasta Shilpa for protecting this cultural architecture from the threshold of destruction. It is not only the asset of the state or the country, but the asset of the whole world. An individual can create miracles, she said.

The museum is displayed in a unique way. It is spread over three buildings divided into eight sections.

The exhibits of each section displays ancient architecture and character of Garodi, wooden folk deities of varying sizes, metal icons, bronze mogas (masks) and traditional furniture and kinnala works, folk crafts like masks of Yakashagana, puppetry and others, musical instruments and idols of deities, figures and masks from Bastar region of Central India.
 
Vijayanath Shenoy, founder secretary, Hasta Shilpa was present on the occasion.

    awesome collection! our cultural heritage is better in the hands of museums than individuals! inevitably, the antiques end up abroad because of the better rates being offered, so its good that mr. shenoy took this up and we have our past to see for the future generation. what seemed routine 20 years back is now an antique right in front of our eyes, technology sure transformed our lives!
