Udupi, Aug 15: Niranjan Bhat, one of three main accused in Bhaskar Shetty murder case has reportedly admitted that he dumped the remains of the dead body and other residues in three rivulets. This was done with the intention of making sure that the remains would never be recovered by police.
Planned actions
It was obvious that Niranjan Bhat and other conspirators and executors of the murder had a doubt that police would know one day that Bhaskar was murdered. But in that situation, they did not want the body remains to be recovered. Dumping them in one place would have been inviting trouble. So he made sure that the remains were disposed off in different places.
Niranjan threw the remains of the burnt body like ash, bones into Palli Rivulet in Nandalike. He also threw mobile phone and watch of the victim into the same rivulet. He threw the pepper spray bottle, poison bottle and iron rod into a rivulet at Kadandale. These things were used by Rajeshwari and Navaneet to kill Bhaskar Shetty. Then tiles, bricks which could have contained the blood stains were thrown into another rivulet near Kadandale.
Though Niranjan knew that whatever thrown into rivulets would not remain at a single place, but flow, yet he wanted to make sure that they should not be found in the same place. That was effectively minimising the risk. He thought, as the remains were dumped in three rivulets, it would never be possible to recover all of them.
It was earlier reported that Niranjan had thrown the remains into Palli rivulet only. Police had believed him then. But the later confession revealed that three rivulets were used for the disposal of remains.
‘I do not remember properly’
While the police are searching for remains in all these three rivulets, so far no progress has been made. Now it is also said that Niranjan is misleading the probing team by saying “I do not remember properly” every now and then. This has become a big impediment in the investigations.

Garments recovered
Meanwhile police have confirmed that they have indeed recovered the garments worn by the accused from a laundry in Nitte. But they have not said whose garments are they. It was reported on Sunday that garments worn by Niranjan and Rajeshwari were found in a laundry which they had given for dry cleaning to remove the blood stains.
Separate interrogations
Police sources have revealed that the five accused persons in the case are interrogated separately. Rajeshwari, her son Navaneet, Niranjan Bhat, his father Srinivasa Bhat and their driver Raghavendra are the accused who are in the police custody.
Police suspect that more people are involved in the murder. It is said that more people have been questioned so far. But their names are not known. It is also believed that same people and more people will be questioned soon.
Investigation on right track- SP
Superintendent of police (SP) T K Balakrishna has said that the investigation is in progress and on the right track. “Police are working relentlessly in collecting evidence and interrogating. More concrete evidence will have to be collected. People should not listen to rumours. Investigation officer ASP Dr Sumana has been talking necessary actions relating to the investigation.” SP said on Sunday.
