Ivan demands ban on Hindu Jagaran Vedike
"In the past, lives of several youth from minority and dalit communities were taken away in the name of cow protection. Now, Hindu Jagaran Vedike (HJV) has claimed the life of a backward community youngster. Therefore, the government should move ahead in the matter of placing ban on HJV," demanded chief whip of the government in legislative council, Ivan D'Souza.
He accused HJV of fomenting trouble often in coastal Karnataka in the name of cow protection. He felt that the organization needs to be disciplined by taking strong action. In reply to a question, he said that the government should also move ahead on the issue of placing a blanket ban on the organization if is found fit for this action.
"Most of the persons who were either killed or jailed relating to the issue of cow protection belonged to either backward communities or dalits. Benefit out of their actions were reaped by people belonging to higher castes," he charged.
He however added that "banning the Sangh Parivar outfit Hindu Jagaran Vedike (HJV) will not deter the cow vigilantes from carrying out their hidden agenda".
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Friday, he hit out at the cow brigade and said many of self-styled Gau-rakshaks were "anti-socials" as per the recent statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"If the Government bans the HJV, activists form another organisation and launch a cow-protection drive," he said.
In the name of cow protection, Ivan D'Souza said the HJV activists have been dividing the society and spreading disharmony among various castes and religions.
"The State Government has to take stern action against cow vigilantes and "imposing the ban is not the solution," the Congress leader from Mangaluru said.
The deceased Praveen Poojary was a former president of the BJP committee of Kenjur village and was mercilessly beaten to death when he and two others transporting four cows from a house at Muddur in a van towards Udupi.
