Kundapur, Aug 26: The incident in which a girl who went missing since Monday evening last and came back in bad shape on Tuesday evening is gaining new twists with each passing day. The police have learnt that the girl's complaint that Rajesh, a car driver from Kollur, had abducted her, raped and posed death threat to her, was a concoted story and there is not even an iota of truth in her narration.
The 20-year-old lady from Yalur, Kollur, had stated before the police here that she had been abducted by the accused, who also raped and threatened of killing her. The police had taken into custody the car driver in question. The statements given by the lady and Rajesh widely differed from one another. During verification of location of cellphones of Rajesh and the lady, and also calls made from these numbers, further gave clue that the two had nothing to do with each other.
On this basis, the police subjected the lady to further interrogation after which she revealed that she had spent a day with her lover, a youth from Goliangady, at Manipal on that fateful day. By the time she returned on Tuesday, the issue had snowballed into a major problem, and police complaint was filed. To escape from this situation, she revealed, she cooked up the kidnap and rape story.
Even after she was admitted into the government hospital here and approached for her statement, she repeated the story of abduction, rape and death threat before the police. The police, who had searched for a youth named Rajesh from Kollur and Halkal areas, had questioned a number of persons with this name. On showing photographs, the lady had picked one as her abductor.
Police had brought Rajesh from Halkal and subjected him to severe questioning. Rajesh had repeatedly insisted that he was not in his native place during this period, and had challenged the police to verify his cellphone records. The police, after detailed investigation, found that the lady had misled them, and that her lover was behind the conceiving of this cock-and-bull story.
After the false story and statements came into the open, her boy friend was summoned to the police station. It is said that he agreed to marry the lady, and both the families have agreed for this alliance. On Thursday, the lady was produced in the court here, where she reportedly swore in the presence of the judge that Rajesh was not involved with any crime as claimed by her, and that she was with her lover that day. Police, after obtaining statement from Rajesh, sent him back by Thursday afternoon.
Rajesh, narrating the turn of events, said that he had gone to Mangaluru as his car had been hired by someone last Monday, and that he returned to his home late night. He said that the police were convinced about his innocence after he insisted that he had never seen the girl referred by them. He said he is contemplating to sue the lady and others for mental torture and loss of reputation suffered by him and his family. "My honour and self respect have been dented. I feel humiliated. This incident has made me mentally very weak. I am a devotee of Kollur goddess and pray that no one else faces this predicament," he stated.
