The power of tourism is unlimited. Tourism can attract anyone and it was not surprising to have celebrated author Dominique Lapierre with his French group at St. Aloysius College. Without any doubt, every single visitor has made it a point to visit the most famous chapel at the College which has such fine paintings from yester years.

As a student, I had the singular privelege of looking at the sensational work every time I happened to be in the chapel. Even if we had seen these paintings almost every single day, we had the habit of seeing the same picture again and again as if we had missed out on some particular part. Even when the mass was going on, we would look up to the top and see some shots of these colourful paintings. Such is the attraction.

If South Kanara has to be put on the world map, it can be done only through world famous institutions like St. Aloysius College, Fr. Muller's Hospital, Kasturba Medical College, the west coast attractions, the temples around Mangalore,Udipi, Moodbidri, and Dharmastala and so many such places which have to be carefully chronicled and ed. One can even add Karkala's Gomata and many more. These attractions have to be promoted everywhere outside the country and one can surely see a flurry of visitors to Mangalore and the district.

Even the local economy will prosper and the people will be happy by being busy and mentally engaged in producing more to earn more. More job opportunites will come in the Tourism sector and the travel sector can also benefit. With so many airlines queing up to land in Bajpe there are plenty of good signs for Mangalore and the nearby

One hopes that the leaders of the area will see light at the end of the tunnel and venture into putting Mangalore and South Kanara on the world map of tourism. The best of education has been exported from Mangalore and Manipal and it is time now to export our tourism attractions also to bring visitors flocking into our place.
