Sullia, Sep 9: Reportedly, Deekshit (19), son of Janardhana Gowda from Paladka near Arambur in the taluk has gone missing since September 7 this year. It is believed that he has undergone religious conversion.
In the recent past, messages had been circulated over cellphones about Satish Acharya (25) from Mandekolu having been converted into Islam. Protest had been held in the village thereafter. The second case has been reported at such a fast succession that it has the potential of ruining the atmosphere in the taluk.
Deekshit had gone to Kozhikode, Kerala, four months back to undergo training in a private institution. After be returned at the end of the course, family members reportedly saw some changes in his routine. Janardhana Gowda, who had questioned his son about the changes, saw for himself that Deekshit was in a pose resembling namaz. Gowda got angry, and slapped Deekshit, it is learnt. Even after intensive questioning, Deekshit, it is reported, walked away without taking anything else including his cellphone.
The family began to search for him after waiting till evening. Deekshit, who called by using the phone of a co-passenger the same evening, said that he was searching for a job and would return in a week, before abruptly cutting the call. On the next day he called his mother on her cellphone to tell her that he was in Chennai. However, the family found that the cellphone he spoke from was in Tirur, Kerala, further strengthening their suspicion.
Janardhana Gowda has since filed a complaint in the police station here. The family said that Deekshit , who is a Karateka, had grown beard and at the insistence of his mother, had shaved it off after returning from Kerala. About the namaz, Deekshit had claimed that he was doing Yogasana. Janardhana Gowda is positively hopeful of his son's return as he is very much attached to his mother.
