Sullia: Teenager goes missing, religious conversion suspected

Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Sep 9: Reportedly, Deekshit (19), son of Janardhana Gowda from Paladka near Arambur in the taluk has gone missing since September 7 this year. It is believed that he has undergone religious conversion.

In the recent past, messages had been circulated over cellphones about Satish Acharya (25) from Mandekolu having been converted into Islam. Protest had been held in the village thereafter. The second case has been reported at such a fast succession that it has the potential of ruining the atmosphere in the taluk.

Deekshit had gone to Kozhikode, Kerala, four months back to undergo training in a private institution. After be returned at the end of the course, family members reportedly saw some changes in his routine. Janardhana Gowda, who had questioned his son about the changes, saw for himself that Deekshit was in a pose resembling namaz. Gowda got angry, and slapped Deekshit, it is learnt. Even after intensive questioning, Deekshit, it is reported, walked away without taking anything else including his cellphone.

The family began to search for him after waiting till evening. Deekshit, who called by using the phone of a co-passenger the same evening, said that he was searching for a job and would return in a week, before abruptly cutting the call. On the next day he called his mother on her cellphone to tell her that he was in Chennai. However, the family found that the cellphone he spoke from was in Tirur, Kerala, further strengthening their suspicion.

Janardhana Gowda has since filed a complaint in the police station here. The family said that Deekshit , who is a Karateka, had grown beard and at the insistence of his mother, had shaved it off after returning from Kerala. About the namaz, Deekshit had claimed that he was doing Yogasana. Janardhana Gowda is positively hopeful of his son's return as he is very much attached to his mother.

    Dear All,
Why this hue & cry. Let the two boys live their life. Would any one of you will go and help them if they are in trouble. A big no. For me I love my religion and same applies to you all. If I leave my religion it will on my own will and wisdom why blame others. Yes on the social life it will have a great impact on the family because Indian social fabric is such and specially in DK. For life long his family might have to suffer for no fault of theirs.

I find your explanation very true.
Teaching to hate anything at all is not good and like u said it makes many a persons curious\curiouser in the bargain that person may change in favour of what he found out...
It is going to happen in India more in the coming years as many are taught to hate other's religion and people following that.
I hope it will stop soonest and people learn of their own religion better and follow it well and stay true to the religion they are born in.
    May peace prevail.

According to our constitution following or choosing any religion or prayer or worship method is left to individuals choice.
I have seen many converts are more orthodox than born followers of that religion.
Now a days radical religious groups target these new recruits to carry forward their flag or war on infidels through violent acts of killing & mayhem.
Most people convert because they don't follow their own faith or it is like a house built on sand instead of rock. Very few learn both their own religious texts & when they find something more logical in other faith they convert.
If any person finds peace & contentment in his own religion or finds contradictions & mythological claims in the religion he wants to convert, then he will remain in his own born faith forever.
No religion is superior if history, archaeology & religious claims get examined as TRUE. By this method very few religions get approval or pass the test, while the followers just want to believe as their belief is supreme to them than questioning their ancestors wisdom.

Faith can't be forced upon.....Nor Islam needs any extra member coz anyhow Islam is the largest practiced religion in the world..India has one of the largest followers of Islam...We don't need someone to be fooled so that we get one more extra follower...If someone is really Interested in Islam after studying it let him follow it why all this fake drama and excuse of brainwashing, terrorism etc..to harass someone for his faith...hundreds are converting daily... He may stay in his old faith because of the threat ... But one can't change someone's heart by force.....People are free to practice, profess and propagate their religion according to Indian constitution...no organisation has right to change it...

Jeevan - there is the conflict. You could be a Hindustani but cannot be therefore HINDU (majority). Because, whether one is Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain, s/he will remain Hindustani.

But, you are Hindustani and majority is not same. Majority is HINDU, not Hindustani. Hindustani is combined, holistic lot, not a certain community.

Your fear of losing the majority number game is what causing friction among Hindustanis. Until and unless you understand this, peace in Hindustan is impossible.

    Rajesh,

"mock our idols, way of worship, cows , Himalaya sages, yoga, geetha etc and print pamphlets and spread missing"

Its not as simple as you say. There is accountability to who say/do this because they can be subjected to legal action. Even if you spread false allegation, it can make you answerable.

At the same time, if one religion does that, there will be re-actions from the other to counter the previous action. We in India live in harmony, not with hate-mongering. Without harmony and cordial relationship, it is impossible to for so many faiths to co-exist. No doubt communal riots have taken place and calmed down - thankfully, because of more peace loving people in India than those who love hate-mongering.

Please do not exaggerate or preconceive.

    Rathan,

I want you to read the following excerpt and tell me what you perceive out of it :

    Quote
Gandhinagar: A day after data on religious conversions in the state was placed by the Gujarat government in the assembly, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanded strict action against conversion of Hindus by the use of force and economic and other attractions.
Government data shows that in the last five years (till March 2015), 1,838 applications for religious conversion were received from across the state, out of which 94.4% applications were from Hindus.
    Unquote

Tell me, where is force apparent here ? In VHP's point that force and enticement was imposed on Hindus, or the truth in applications submitted by the Hindus to convert to other religions ?

Could VHP access on WHY the Hindus want to convert and work on it so that no continuation takes place, instead of bringing those who migrated ?

Which is easy - prevention, or cure ?

As long as one does not fall prey to extremist elements there is no problem. in the urge to prove loyalty to new found belief, one should not end up hating the past. that can even lead to hating own parents or siblings, or neighborhood. there are cases in the past.. hope no such thing happens here and allz well

    Dear Lydia,
i am neither against conversion nor against Ghar Vaapsi per se. if one is wrong the other is wrong too. I only brought into fore the Hypocrisy of some people. The convertor in both the cases believes that the religion he follows is superior to the other. it is true that Abrahamic religions came to India much later and hinduism Jainism and buddism was being followed by most indians . So every proselytisation by an Hindu to convert a christian would result in Ghar Vaapsi even if it is not explicitly stated as Ghar Vaapsi. So the moot point is why do you want to deny Hindus the right to convert which so far is considered by most as constitutional right?. i am an agnostic in belief, so for me it does not really matter. In some religions conversion is one sided affair, so it is in a way a trap and goes against principle of fairness. In countries like Saudi Arabia, forget converting even if an Islamist chooses atheism, he is sent to gallows.

Nice trend .... If someone missing just say he/she is a religious conversion victim .....
If a person's beliefs and Faith's are strong none will ever think about it ....

I think once we grow up we must have the freedom to choose our religion if we wish so.But this breaks our hearts when our loved ones move away from us.It is better to teach about our faith to our kids when they are with us without teaching hatred about others, because when we teach hatred they become more interested to explore and try to find answers for that hatred.

Religion conversion based on brain washing one's mind is very difficult to return back. The target for these so called religious converts are youths who are secluded, introvert, quiet behaving dejected youths.

The so called teachers who converting to one religion to other are well trained and they they can understand the pulse. These converted youths will be later used for their selfish ends,as their depth of religion knowledge is very shallow. "Half educated people are more dangerous than fully educated or ignorant people."

    Sam,

Who are Dalits ? Whom do they worship ? What do they eat ? Have you any idea ?

Its wrong of RSS/VHP to take Dalits as their father's property. Dalits are not Hindus ! Dalits are the tribes who were existing before Hinduism got introduced. They are the lineage of ancient people who feared natural phenomenon and started worshipping objects like stone, sun, moon out of fear from natural calamities.

Though Hindu spiritual heads bargain that Hinduism was Sanathan Dharma that has no beginning, that they can't explain the object worship of Tirbals itself proves their false 'Sanathan' claim.

Christians and Muslims may have converted from Hinduism, but Hindu religion itself was taught to Tribal/Dalits. They were made to believe of Bhrahman (to have emerged from the head of Brahma hence) destined to learn/preach Veda, Khatriya (to have emerged from arms of Brahma hence) destined to be warrior, Vaishya (to have emerged from legs of Brahma hence) destined to travel and do trade and Shoodra (to have emerged from feet of Brahma hence) hence destined to do lower grade jobs like cleaning, etc.

All the mankind of the world were tribes of prehistorical human dwellings who gradually, over generations, took up different methods of worship hence are now called Hindus, Christians, Muslims, so on.

Who said Dalits r not Hindus?
Your own theory ? All Hindus worship objects told by you in different forms depending on where they live
Don't show ur half knowledge of Hinduism
In GEETHA it is clearly said there is no cast system by birth it depends upon the "karma" one does
    Don't quote selectively
Who forcibly converted in Goa ? You think it is by choice or tipusultan did ?
If it suits us it is chamtkar otherwise baltkar

    Ratan,

In Mangaluru, we often see women from Bidar/Gulbarga, coming with a stone assembled in a basket with saffron/vermilion smeared on it and some colourful garments and fresh flowers. What are we to take it as ? A form of Goddess ?? Well, to people of such locality, a stone is God. Why do they not have Mata Saraswati's image ? Because that form of religion hasn't reached them. Meaning, before Matha Saraswati's introduction, they worshipped this stone carved Goddess and continue to do that.

I have no disagreement that my forefathers too may have been one among these people to who, Christianity came first but to your forefathers, Hinduism came first. Tipu Sultan came after this phase and converted both Christians/Hindus to Islam.

Not only you gentleman, even firefly says that he alone enlightens - I to cannot be different in that perspective !
