Mumbai, Dec 13: US-based Time Inc.'s 'People' magazine which is being brought to India by the Outlook Group has named Saira Menezes as its editor. She will launch the magazine in mid-2008 and is presently identifying and recruiting the core team.
Till recently Menezes was the editor of Dubai-based 'The Emirates Evening Post', a daily newspaper which she transformed from broadsheet to tabloid. When she took over, she became the first woman editor of an English daily in the UAE.
'People' will be her fourth editorship.
Menezes had earlier been editor of 'Sunday Mid Day', the weekend edition of India's biggest noon paper. Prior to that, she was editor of women's magazine 'Savvy'. She was instrumental in revamping each of these publications.
Commenting on her appointment, Maheshwar Peri, President & Publisher, Outlook Group, said, "Saira had worked with 'Outlook' a few years ago, and we are delighted to have her back to lead the editorial team of 'People'. The decision of taking Saira on board has come through an extensive search, and we believe that we have got one of the best editors to be working on the magazine. We hope that with her leadership skills and editorial capabilities, we would be able to shape the magazine in a manner that pleases our readers."
