Udupi, Dec 13: The second day of 74th Kannada Literary Convention was filled with activities which were being attended by large number of people from across the Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi.  The seminar held on Thursday December 13 morning, which was presided over by former chief minister and chairman of Union Administrative Reforms Committee, Veerappa Moily was thought-provoking.

The people of undivided DK are urged to be accommodative for the new generation of projects which would bring prosperity to the region besides contributing towards the national development.

The venue was jam-packed during the cultural events.  But it was sad to see main auditorium running empty during main sessions of the day.  A handful of people were attentive listeners while some others seemed to have come for picnic.  Majority of the students who were found at the venue were busy in their own world when serious sessions regarding literature and culture were going on.

On the other hand it was indeed a delight to view the Kannadigas thoroughly enjoying the Kannada literary convention, with people going on buying spree of chosen books from their favourite authors, poetry from popular poets and literary collections.  Nearly 3 thousand ushers are doing their best to serve the people.  The traditional delicacy ‘payasam’ was savoured in large quantity by most of the attendees.

Despite several shortcomings convention is going on smoothly without much trouble. Arrangements are quite good with plenty of volunteers available round the clock for any emergency.  In all the convention has given a new dimension to the city and the district as well.

Now a days people are giving priority to Extra curricular activities rather actual activities which are made for the benefit of the children. People are more concerned about having fun at any occassion eventhough it is meant for some good cause. Here, though this function was held to educate people with art & crafts, most of them are busy having fun or enjoying. Perhaps we teach our children what the culture is instead what it was.
