Mangaluru: Govt followed SC order, violence unjustified in Cauvery water dispute- Khader

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (JD)

Mangaluru, Sep 12: “The department of Food and Civil Supplies will install weighing machines outside the super markets and hyper markets in state to avoid cheating,” said UT Khader, the minister for food and civil supplies on Monday, September 12.

Addressing the media persons in city, he said, “There are more than 2000 supermarkets and hypermarkets in the city. After goods are packed, there is no provision to weigh them hence, there is a greater chance for a consumer to get duped. Thus, the officers of the department have spoken to owners of the various super and hyper markets and have obtained permission to keep the weighing machines.”

Coupons for BPL and APL card holders

Khader said that e-coupons will be issued in addition to the existing coupons in the fair price shops for the months of October, November and December. They will be issued, starting next year.

Caution to Multi-national companies who store food grains

The minister cautioned godowns against storing food grains beyond 2000 quintal in the urban areas and 1000 quintals in the rural areas which causes a hike in prices. “The officials of the department will raid such godowns and seize the storage. Now that the yield has arrived, the prices of pulses are about Rs 45 per kg. As seen a few months ago, the private players are likely to make the most of the increase in demand by hoarding the produce,” he said.

Vandalizing Karnataka firms' assets in Tamil Nadu

On Karnataka-origin-assets being vandalized in Tamil Nadu, he said, “Nothing can be achieved through violence. As Indians we must live in harmony. I believe that the political leaders in Tamil Nadu will guide the people and not let them take law into their hands.”

“The state government has obeyed the order given by the Supreme Court. During protests, a few protesters were of the opinion that Bangarappa showed the courage of his convictions, when he denied water to Tamil Nadu. It was only the order by the Kaveri Tribunal, led by the prime minister, and the pleas of Tamil Nadu to the Supreme Court that made Karnataka let go of the water. The Supreme Court has yet again issued an order, and we must all respect the law of the land.”

“We have all have been pained by the interim order but must obey it. Even the opposition leaders know that the government is bound to obey the court's orders, yet they politicize the issue for no reason. The people must understand the situation and co-operate with the government. The government will again go to court and request a modification of the order that would be favourable to the state. We are obeying the order so that the future verdict of the Supreme Court is favourable to us,” said the minister.

The minister also extended his greetings to all people of the state on the occasion of Eid.

Respected Mr. Khader Saab, please read the following statement from a Professional Lawyer

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 13: Former advocate general and senior advocate, B V Acharya, has expressed the opinion that the order issued by the Supreme Court (SC) on release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu has violated Interstate River Water Disputes Act.

He is of the opinion that as per section 11 of Interstate River Water Dispute Act - 1956, no courts including SC can interfere in the matter of interstate river water distribution disputes. Only tribunals or monitoring committees can redress the disputes. He therefore is of the opinion that SC has erred in passing order to release water to Tamil Nadu.

No need to use public money to install weighing scale in 2000 or more hyper markets as mentioned above

Rather instruct these mall management to install one or two common scale for customer to check the wieghts of prepacked items if required before making bill

    It is thier expenditure

Please use tax payers money wisely

The decision of SC is strange. There is only 51TMC of water in dam. The river starts from Kodagu ...and water flows 800KM till Tamil nadu .. Chidambaram Most of the waters about 58 percent flows to Tamil nadu and only 38 percent for Karnataka .The tamil farmers are growing Rice ,Bananas along the belt which consumes more water . In karnataka mandya they grow sugar cane which require more water. The kaveri water is used for drinking for Mysore, mandya , bangalorems city also . SC judgement review is favouring TAMIL NADU. Now netravati diversion is another problems created for future generation created for D.K people of diverting water to bellary without looking into technically water is sufficient and made available for D.K for future needs of Mangaloreaan. Our D.K ,MANGALOREAN politician are useless people who are not having any voice or technical knowledge to give service to people of by providing 24x7 Drinking water , Electricity , connecting New drainage system .
The city is growing with Builders building high rise building and minting money. The time will come people of mangalore and d.k will also start violent protest on yetinahole project and diversion of water. God save our Mangalore and D.K. Our system on Governance and planning starts from Z...TO A . CREATE PROBLEMS and later FIND SOLUTION going to court for another 100 years..Like waht is now for Kaveri water issue being dragged for years without wny solutions.

Both the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are responsible and answerable to our irresponsible people of both states.

If both state government had sit together and with dialogues had solved this issue, we would have not had this situation.

Now Waitress, Pappu, Keju, Mulam, Mamma, Siddu .... all start blaming Modi. Good this was a supreme court's decision.

Just a thought. As of now, parts of Karnataka have risen in violent protests over release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu inspite of poor water situation in Karnataka. Even though violent protests and damage to public property is unjustified, the people over there feel so strongly about the water situation over there. The whole nation has sat up and taken notice. Flashback to few months ago in Dakshina Kannada district and what did we see happening during the protests against the unscientific Yettinahole project which seeks to take away water from DK and release it elsewhere. Did the government even consider our protests or even have an open ended discussion with the people over here. Did the state representatives, MP, ministers,MLAs and MLCs even exert any kind of pressure (even a nudge)to stop this project? Has there been any follow-up from the people who have been affected by land takeover issues or those people whose very existence will be affected if the river is diverted? Have we, the people made our voices heard to the deaf and uncaring politicians? No wonder, no one takes us people of DK seriously! What is the use of being a district with the highest number of educational institutes? Different parties only protest for different issues which will enhance their votebank share, but none of them join hands for a common cause which will mitigate the sufferings of the people. We only get nationwide attention when the moral police make their presence felt!

People & Politicians of Karnataka need to ask what we get by remaining part of Indian Republic?
Time & again the decisions of Tribunals or Courts goes against the interest of state & people when deficient rains are there, they just award water not considering what the state should do to cope with drought situation for the rest of the year.
Britain exited from EU as it proved not favorable for their economy, is it time Karnataka should convey the center they would not co-operate with them & want Freedom too if they are treated with step-motherly treatment in future.
It is time the central government realize they cannot ignore interest of every state just because it has different government.
