Mangaluru, Sep 16: M Santosh Acharya, an accused in the case of fixing the mobile camera in Mangaluru University campus, was granted bail on Thursday, September 15.
Santosh was arrested on Wednesday, September 14 and was produced in court on the same day, and he was sent to judicial custody. He spent only one day in judicial custody after which he managed to secure bail.
As per sources at the university campus, students and parents as well as university staff are unhappy with the development. They find something fishy in the case. They say that the case was made weak from the beginning by the police due to some influence from a politician.
What makes the matter worse, is nobody is sure what Santosh has filmed and where he has kept the recordings. Some police sources had even said that Santosh may not be mentally sound, so he fixed the camera in ladies toilet.
Now the bail for him has sent shockwaves in the student community. It is believed that they may resort to some protests very soon condemning his act as well as the inability of police to deal with the case in a transparent manner.
Santosh was charged under IT act 66 and Section 354 C.
It is remembered that the university management had taken several days to complain to police after finding the camera in the toilet. Police had also taken many days to arrest Santosh. But the bail has come within a day.
