Mangalore, Dec 18: The very advent of December fills the air with Christmas message. This is a month to get out of one's house and wish each other, to celebrate, to share and to party around. Young and old, timid and bold, men and women, all keep themselves busy in this last month of the year.
For Christians Christmas has special significance. It is not just the birth day of Jesus, but it is a time of new beginning, rejuvenation of spirituality etc. It was with this same religious fervor and joy that St Anthony Syrian Church, Jeppu, here celebrated Christmas on Monday December 17.
"We conducted the Christmas carols. We visited every Christian house in the vicinity. We sang Christian songs in all the houses. It was totally a five-day celebration at the church premises. Though it was a private programme, the magnitude of the celebration did not allow us to feel it is a private programme, it was no less a public programme," said Vinay Raj, an advocate and member of the church community, while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent regarding how the celebrations were carried out.
Participation of Sunday school children what made the difference. The participation made everyone happy and cheerful. Hardly any one might have felt that there was only a religious touch to the entire programme, rather they touched the heart of the people gathered on the occasion. Totally 700 members from more than 150 families took part in the celebration, the advocate adds.
The religious part of the programme was administered by Fr Kuriakose, priest of Peradka Church and Fr Sunny John, priest of St Anthony Church Jeppu.
