Indore, Dec 20 (mb): An elephant walking around with designer shoes in the town has turned a big attraction for people, especially the kids.

Radha, the female elephant, was gifted designer shoes for its front foot by Raju Sagar, who is a neighbour to her. The brown shoes are about two feet in length and shaped to suit the elephant’s foot. It has thick leather at the bottom.

"It took me a lot of time, almost six months to make these shoes. Though the shoes are now ready, I want to make more modifications for a better comfort. Now my darling elephant is happy, so am I. Its legs won't hurt now," said Raju Sagar.

Raju, who is in his early forties, runs a chain of juice parlours in Indore and quite well-off. He is fond of feeding her everyday the leftover of fruits collected from his shops.

With the passage of time his affection for the quiet animal grew fonder. It perturbed him to realise the problems of the elephants on concrete roads. He spent around Rs 40,000 for Radha so that she doesn’t suffer.

Raju has an appeal for popular animal activist Maneka Gandhi to propagate awareness about the pain of elephants suffered by them while being taken from one place to another by Mahouts.

In the days to come, Raju also has plans to prepare a special dress for Radha to protect her from chilling winters. He will take help of his friend and other supporters.
