Mangaluru, Sep 28: The government has modified Dasara holidays, and the new schedule of holiday is from October 9 to 22. But Dasara festival is celebrated from October 1 to 11, which means that the students get festival holidays only during the fag end. This has also created confusion in the travel plans of parents of these students.
Teachers associations have already requested the government to modify the holiday period in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts as the coastal districts had declared only for a day as against six by other districts during the period of turmoil over Cauvery issue and state bandh. Even if this request is upheld, holidays will be added only at the end of the Dasara holiday, not before.
Bank holidays
Bank customers have to make advance preparations to face problems arising out of 12 holidays including Sunday during October. As employees of banks tend to avail casual leave between two series of holidays, shortage of employees can be expected at banks, which might hamper work. ATMs are also likely to remain without cash on several days. The bank holidays are on October 8 (second Saturday), 10 (Ayudha Puja), 11 (Vijayadashami), 12 (Muharram), 15 (Valmiki Jayanti), 29 (Naraka Chaturdashi, and 31 (Bali Padyami). In addition, the banks will be closed on five Sundays too.
