Beltangady, Oct 1: Police personnel attached to the police station here had to wait for eight long hours before they could take a person into custody for the arrest of whom a warrant had been issued. As per information, they were made to wait by the accused who was holed inside his house from Thursday night to Friday morning.

Hakim, a resident from Jarigebail here, faces a three-year-old case of assault. After he was booked for assault, instead of presenting himself in the court, Hakim had fled to a foreign country. The policemen, who were closely following his movements, came to know that he had returned home. They had gone to his house with the intention of arresting him on Thursday night.

The accused, who knew that police were waiting to arrest him, hid himself inside the house, and did not open the doors of his house. The policemen, after waiting for eight hours, conveyed their predicament to higher officials. 15 police personnel, local people and police sub-inspector thereafter arrived at the spot and gave him clear signal that the doors of the house would be broken open.

At this, the accused developed cold feet and came out, it is learnt. He was thereafter produced before the magistrate. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
