Bantwal, Oct 8: A policeman has been accused of behaving rudely with a widow, an elderly man and another man at Deppoligein Peraje within Vittal police station limits. The policeman also threatened these persons and destroyed crops, the complaint sent to district superintendent of police (SP) says.
Rukmaya Gowda (32) is the policeman who has been named in the complaint. He is from Deppoligein Peraje and works as assistant sub-inspector at Bantwal rural police station.
Rukmaya Gowda allegedly threatened a widow named Mohini who is also a panchayat member, Parameshwara Naik, an elderly man and Adam, a driver. Rukmaya also destroyed coconut and banana trees from their lands, it is alleged.
The incident took place on October 4, it is said.
Rukmaya came drunk with his wife on that day and showed the victims a machete and also assaulted Parameshwara Naik. He was also about to attack Mohini who intervened, the complaint says.
Rukmaya also told them that he would burn their houses if they dared to complain against him.
Parameshwara Naik has been admitted to Wenlcok hospital in Mangaluru. It is also said that Rukmaya had assaulted Shivappa Poojary from the same location on June 5 and a police complaint was lodged at Vittal police station about it. But no action was taken to date on that issue.
The complainants have sent the photo and video evidence with the complaint.
