Mangaluru, Oct 9: Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah arrived at Mangaluru airport, on his way to Puttur taluk for the foundation stone laying ceremony for Veterinary College under Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Science University on Sunday, October 9.
Cauvery issue
Speaking to media on the question that Cauvery row, expert committee visiting the state CM Siddaramaiah said “We have the assurance of getting justice. We had appealed to the union government to send expert team for the assessment on ground realities of both states. Team will assess situation like what is rainfall, amount of water stored in reservoirs, why we want water, and what is the situation of crops. And they will submit a report. Supreme Court will take decision on October 18 based on the report.”
Referring to Mahadayi water dispute, CM said that already there is a tribunal constituted. “I I have also written letters to PM, Chief Ministers of Goa, Maharashtra. Maharashtra CM has invited for dialogue in Mumbai on October 21.”
Gokarna temple
On taking over the management of Gokarna Temple by the government, CM said “There is no such proposal before the government. As someone filed public interest litigation (PIL), the matter is before the court. The court has also asked the government’s decision. Government advocate will answer it and I have not discussed this matter with the lawyer.”
Promotion of son in politics
On a question about the CM promoting his younger son in politics, he said “I have not promoted my son for the elections. When my elder son was alive, he used to look after the constituency as I had no time. But after his death, I have asked my younger son to look after the constituency and problems of people. He is a doctor. He has no interest in politics but I have told him to spare time for the constituency once a week. When I visited the constituency I introduced him to the electorate.”
“I have only introduced my son to the electorate. Can it be called promoting? Which law says that I should not to introduce my son as son? Is it is an offence?” Siddaramaiah questioned.
Yettinahole
On on-going project Yettinahole and there is no 24 TMC water available from the project as per the experts he said “I will call a meeting on that issue. Experts also told the government that there is more than 24 TMC water available and based on this opinion, we started the project. It is not Nethravati diversion. It is a wrong notion. The rain water is lifted from certain places and there is no problem to any people and to people of Mangaluru.
On Paschimavahini project he said he will look into the matter.
Customary welcome
Siddaramaiah was welcomed with customary Chande music and Pili Vesha, the famous tiger dance of Dakshina Kannada district.
All the ministers from the district, people’s representatives and Congress leaders and workers were present at the airport.
