- City inspector in soup for letting fake passports pass under his scrutiny
Bangalore, Dec 29: A city police inspector is feeling the heat after a family of six Afghans with fake Indian passports was caught trying to board a plane to France in Mumbai.
The inspector, Nizamuddin, and his assistant, head constable P Malleshappa, of the D J Halli police station had supposedly verified the authenticity of the documents for the passports.
No legwork
Investigations revealed that the constable confirmed the identities of the family members without even visiting their house.
Assuming all was in order, inspector Nizamuddin signed on the documents without checking further. Hoever, everything, including the addresses on the passports were fake.
CCB inspector NH Siddappa who is conducting the investigation said, “The signature of the inspector is the final approval for sanction of a passport so they should be more careful while verifying the documents.”
The Afghans had come to Bangalore illegally a few years ago. They managed to acquire fake passports through a tout called Mukesh at the passport office.
Siddappa has filed a complaint against the inspector and the constable with the DJ Halli police.
