Mangaluru, Jul 4: In a shared spirit of ecological responsibility and community engagement, five inspiring environmental awareness programmes were recently held at St Raymond’s Convent, Vamanjoor, Shubada Centre, Suralpady, Rosa Mystica Convent, Kinnikambla, Nazareth Home, Bajpe, and Masha Allha SHG at BC Road — offered vibrant examples of how spirituality and ecological commitment go hand in hand.

St Raymond’s Convent, Vamanjoor - June 10

The programme at St Raymond’s Convent opened in a spirit of unity and prayer. A keynote address by Sr Dona inspired all present with reflections on Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on care for creation. Sr Dona emphasized the need for ecological spirituality grounded in simplicity and responsibility, encouraging everyone to become agents of environmental transformation within their families and communities. As a visible commitment to ecological care, saplings were distributed to institutional heads, followed by a tree plantation ceremony led by Sr Lavita and BLA members—symbolizing growth, sustainability, and reverence for nature. The event concluded with a time of fellowship, strengthening community bonds around the shared mission of environmental stewardship.





Masha Allha SHG – June 10

The Masha Allha Self-Help Group marked the Environmental Day with a special gathering led by Sr Ileene Joy, who spoke on the importance of caring for Mother Earth. As a symbolic act of commitment, SHG women planted a sapling together, reinforcing their role in local environmental preservation.

Nazareth Home, Bajpe – June 21

The Green Day celebration at Nazareth Home, Bajpe focused on raising awareness among young formees about environmental care. They were encouraged to plant saplings and personally commit to preserving the Earth. The event served as a practical introduction to ecological responsibility for the next generation. Sr Shalet D’Souza initiated this programme along with Sr Celine Vas and Sr Philomen

Shubada Centre, Suralpady - June 25

On the theme “Go Green, Live Green,” the Environmental Day programme at Shubada Centre brought together community members, SHG participants, and school children for an inspiring celebration. Students from the Government Higher Primary School, Suralpady, set the tone with a prayerful hymn, and guests were welcomed with the offering of saplings—affirming the day’s environmental message. Sr Flavia Wilma, secretary of the Shubhada Society, delivered a heartfelt message encouraging all to see the Earth as a divine gift and act as responsible caretakers through small but meaningful actions. Guests of honor joined in the symbolic watering and planting of saplings, reinforcing their commitment to a greener future. The programme concluded with snacks and joyful camaraderie, gracefully coordinated by Sr Aruna, coordinator of the Shubhada Trust.

Rosa Mystica Convent, Kinnikambla – June 25

In collaboration with Jeevandhara Social Service Trust (R), the Rosa Mystica community joyfully celebrated Vanamahotsava. The programme was led by Sr Leena Pereira, superior, with a motivational message from Sr Ileene Joy, highlighting the importance of nurturing the Earth. Enthusiastic participation from novices, along with Sr Sonia and the formation personnel, brought spiritual depth to the event. Saplings were planted throughout the campus, followed by a sweet sharing of unity and joy. The programme was smoothly compered by Sr Sophia, with a warm welcome by Sr Leena Pereira and a heartfelt vote of thanks by Sr Juliet Shanthi.

Across all events, a common thread of partnership and generosity was evident. Jeevandhara Social Service Trust, Kulshekar, played a vital role in supporting these green initiatives by donating saplings and offering consistent encouragement.
