Kundapur, Oct 14: Relating to a long-standing enmity over a piece of land, two groups fought with each other on Thursday October 13 night. In the fight, four persons, two each from both sides, including a lady municipal councillor suffered injuries. All the injured stand admitted into hospital.
The injured happen to be municipal councillor, Pushpa Shet, her brother Ashok Shet, and members of the other group, Laxmish Tantry and Yogeesh Poojary.
A new building titled 'Malavika' has been constructed by demolishing the erstwhile Geethanjali Talkies in the town. Owner of Jayalaxmi Textiles at Udyavar, Veerendra, and Laxmish Tantry had bought this land on partnership basis. A person named Ramesh Shet had approached the court, alleging that ownership of the said land is not backed by proper documents and that the concerned had encroached upon his land illegally.
The case is languishing in court. The two groups often were engaged in verbal duels, and quarrels, many a time even using obscene words. The issue came to a boil on Thursday. Yogeesh, Laxmish Tantry and Shreejan, it is said, had visited the jewellery shop being run by Ashok Shet, brother of Ramesh Shet, on Thursday evening with the stated purpose of buying gold. Shet told him that no trade could be conducted as he was about to close the shop. It is being claimed that the three, who introduced themselves as the residents of adjacent apartment complex, suddenly attacked Shet. When Shet's sister and municipal councillor, Pushpa Shet, came forward to defend her brother, she too was attacked, as per the allegations levelled by Ashok Shet and Pushpa, both of whom have got admitted into hospital.
Yogeesh and Laxmish Tantry too got admitted into another hospital. They alleged that Ramesh Shet, Ashok Shet and Krishna Shet have been digging the connecting road to their Malavika apartment complex, and when it was objected, they attacked had Yogeesh. They added that Pushpa, who came to the spot, also joined the above persons in attacking the others.
Both the legs of Ashok Shet have suffered serious injuries. Both the hands of Yogeesh have been injured. Two separate cases stand registered in the police station here about this fight. Local municipal president, Vasanti Sarang, and vice president, Rajesh Kaveri, have condemned the act of attacking a municipal councillor. They have termed the attack as a blot on democratic principles.
